In college basketball, you hear a lot about five-star recruits, buzzer beaters and March Madness moments. But every once in a while, a different kind of story comes along — one that doesn’t start with national rankings or scholarship offers.
For Boise State junior Brennan Ramirez, his road to the hardwood wasn’t paved with glory. It started with a towel over his shoulder and a whole lot of hustle.

In former Boise State forward Tyson Degenhart’s earliest memories playing basketball, he is around the age of two or three, shooting basketballs into a little basketball hoop at his grandmother’s house.

Born in Spokane, Washington, Degenhart first fell in love with basketball watching the Gonzaga Bulldogs. His family had season tickets, and from there, he became a fan of Adam Morrison, often wearing his jersey for months at a time. His mother, Tiffany, who was a math teacher, taught Morrison during his freshman year at Mead High School, giving Degenhart the opportunity to meet Morrison at a young age and build a relationship with him over time.

“I went to as many games as I could and I just loved basketball from the beginning,” Degenhart said. “I was able to play a lot of sports as a kid, but basketball was always my number one.”

If you’ve spent more than a few hours on the west side of the Albertsons Stadium this summer, you’ve likely seen a group of men hauling large cardboard boxes in and out of a space labeled “Bronco Shop”. But don’t be fooled; they’re not stocking alumni sweatshirts, footballs or Buster themed stuffed animals.

Welcome to Bronco Studios — Boise State Athletics’ new in-house media production team and studio. Nestled in the former Bronco Shop, the under construction office space is set to launch by the start of this year’s college football season, offering free, live and on-demand programming that will share the stories of Bronco Nation’s favorite athletes.

“We are constantly in a cycle of news where people want to know more,” Chris Kutz, Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs, said. “When you talk about storytelling in college athletics and sports, it’s all about connection.”

Discover how Bronco Studios aims to redefine storytelling in college athletics with award-winning journalist Jay Tust leading the way at the link in bio.

While many seem to be experiencing “brain rot” from excessive screen time, it’s refreshing to know that one corner of the online world is actually encouraging people to put their phones down, open a book and gain all the wonderful benefits of reading.

BookTok, a growing community on the app TikTok, has become a digital space where people passionate about reading come together to discuss the books they enjoy.

“It’s mostly women sharing their love of books on TikTok and sharing what they like to read and reviews on books,” Alexis Weber, founder of the Boise Book Club, said of the trending online community. “The big reason that books are popular again is because of BookTok.”

SNAP, or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, provides support for low-income households, unhoused or food-insecure individuals.

House Bill 109, introduced by the Idaho State Legislature’s Health and Welfare Committee, excludes the purchase of soda and candy from the SNAP program. Governor Brad Little signed the bill with support from U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins.

Style evolves over time — and that’s okay. Fashion choices someone felt confident in when they were thirteen might not be the same pieces they gravitate toward today. Instead of rolling our eyes at our past fashion eras, we should take it in stride, understanding that fashion exploration is meant to be a sense of joy and expression, not judgment and shame.
Laura Tully, a personal wardrobe stylist and style educator based in Boise, focuses on three questions when styling a client: How do you want to show up for yourself? How can style be used as a tool to show up as the best version of yourself? How do you create a wardrobe that supports your lifestyle?
“So much of style for me and how I work with my clients is really about showing up and owning who you are through the clothing that we get to put on our body in a way that really reflects this is me unapologetically,” she said.
That sense of unapologetic style freedom seemed to be the theme of the evening at the No New Vintage Night Market. The Linen Building was buzzing with shoppers excitedly combing through items of all different styles, spanning across several decades of fashion.

Tanner Nielsen was 30 minutes away from making a call that could forever change the culture of his small business when he received an email from Jenna Ascher, 18, a recent high school graduate and long-time regular of Realms Arcade. Attached to this email was a large oil painting of her closest friends hanging out in front of the venue, adorned in dark clothes and face paint.

This call would be made to the Idaho Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC), who had performed an investigation on Realms Arcade early last week after receiving an anonymous complaint regarding the business’s alcohol to food sale ratio. The ABC determined that the venue, which has been serving the Treasure Valley as an all-ages arcade, bar and concert space since 2023, did not meet the requirements necessary to be defined as a restaurant due to their limited food menu.

Nielsen was left with two options — become a 21+ venue or temporarily cancel Realms Arcade’s beer and wine license until they could meet requirements.

“I got Jenna’s email and thought, ‘I know what I have to do’,” Nielsen, partial owner of the arcade, explained. “We make money with alcohol, but our community is all-ages. From the beginning, being all-ages was the most important part of Realms beyond anything else.”

Over three hot days in early June, the historic Boise Depot bustled with Boise’s best dressed.

Rows of chairs lined a sleek, white runway where models showcased looks curated by local designers, student stylists and emerging creatives.

At the heart of the glitz and glamour is Erica Becker, the visionary behind Boise Fashion Week.

Becker founded the nonprofit in 2023 when she noticed a gap in the city’s creative scene.

“There’s a lot of creatives that have an interest [in the beauty and fashion industries] but there was nowhere to showcase those interests,” Becker said. “As someone who comes from [a design] background, I had those resources and realized everything was set up in a way [in Boise] that we could pull all those resources together — someone just needed to do it.“
