On August 1, 1989, a column by a 91-year-old man with Coke-bottle glasses appeared in the Bellingham Herald. The column’s preamble described the author, George Hunsby, as an “oral historian” with a lifetime of stories about Whatcom County life.

When The Way Station opened in November 2024, it aimed to meet a basic but urgent need in Whatcom County: access to hygiene services, health care, and medical respite for people experiencing homelessness. The contest is open for submissions July 11 – August 29, 2025, and offers over $1,400 in cash prizes. Fourteen winning photos will be selected—one for each month of the calendar, one for the cover, and one chosen by community votes as the "Fan Favorite."

The Hamster Art Walk and Roll will be held on July 17, from 4pm – 7pm at Barkley Village Green. In addition to art displays and vendors, the event will feature a performance by Out of the Ashes and will serve as a resource fair, connecting members of the disability community with businesses and organizations that promote and advance inclusion and accessibility in Whatcom County.

Cascade Connections is celebrating Disability Pride Month this July by hosting their first ever Hamster Art Walk and Roll – an accessible Art Walk showcasing the creative gifts of individuals with disabilities.

When you enter Barrett Lizza's world in Fairhaven, it's a good idea to move slowly and keep your eyes open.
