On Monday evening the Oddball Films staff got to see filmmaker Martin Scorsese at the Castro Theatre SFFilm screening of his recent documentary “Rolling Thunder R***e: A Bob Dylan Story.” Scorcese spoke after the film and told some stories about making the film and shared his thoughts on how narrative and documentary films come together as one genre. Oddball Films has some great 70’s footage in the film!

Join Oddball Films at 3rd i's seventeenth annual SF International South Asian Film Festival (Bollywood and Beyond) with some of the best cinema from India, Sri Lanka, UK and the USA. This year’s festival lends an ear to young voices, capturing both intergenerational relationships, and stories of youth coming-of-age in rural areas and in megacities. Humor takes centerstage in stories of stand-up comics, and in our signature shorts program which uses satire to address pressing social issues from the border wall to colorism. This year’s festival is brimming with cutting-edge indie narratives: from gripping and compassionate stories of addiction, to up-and-coming filmmakers of Bengali cinema and the Assamese New Wave, to a searing and masterful period drama on caste conflict from Sri Lanka. As always, California filmmakers and Women’s stories shine bright!

For expanded program and ticketing information, please visit: www.thirdi.org

Use promotional code "cp_2019” when purchasing tickets and receive 20% off an individual $11 ticket (until online sales end two hours before the screening. Online fees not discounted).

Rattlesnakes, Cameras, Pistols and Lilies: Come see a unique exhibition of photographs and paintings of a desert journey.
Oddball Films is excited to recommend this one-of-a-kind exhibition spearheaded by our friend, the multi-talented artist Warner Graves. Warner has co-edited, along with Ann Japenga, a book of photographs chronicling the story of his grandmother Lula Mae Graves and her cousin, Susie Keef Smith as they travelled through the southwest in the 1920s armed with a pistol, a camera, and an eye for the desert’s beauty. Recently Warner took the time to travel through many of the spots that his grandmother Lula Mae and her friend Susie visited and painted the landscapes he saw there. Lula Mae and Susie’s photographs and Warner’s paintings are being shown together until May 15th at La Quinta Museum, just southeast of Palm Springs, California.

Oddball Films and San Francisco Media Archive are initiating a film preservation project. Our first focus is on detecting and measuring the severity of acetate deterioration ("vinegar syndrome") in our film collections. Shown here is lead archivist Megan Needels using A-D strips to measure these levels on this 16mm film print.
