💥The 6637 Filter Mod: Power Gains or Performance Drains?💥
For years, 7.3L Power Stroke owners have sworn by the 6637 filter mod. It’s cheap, easy, and sounds cool, but KC Turbos just crushed the hype with cold, hard dyno data.
First up, they tested the “Zoodad mod,” cutting a hole in the core support to bring cooler air into the factory airbox. No real horsepower gains, but intake temps dropped dramatically. Cooler air, better for towing. Win.
Then came the 6637 test… and the results were brutal. Hotter air temps before the truck even ran. On the dyno? Down 12 horsepower, 38 lb-ft of torque lost, and a terrifying 200º spike in exhaust temps. That’s not performance, that’s engine damage waiting to happen.
KC’s verdict? The 6637 is basically a giant hot-air intake. They’ve seen it cause poor power, high EGTs, smoke, and collapsed boots. It looks cool, maybe, but it could be hurting your truck.
Bottom line: Cold air matters. Keep your intake pulling fresh air from outside the engine bay, your turbo (and your wallet) will thank you.
A dyno test from KC Turbos shows the popular 6637 filter for the 7.3L Power Stroke actually loses horsepower and dramatically increases EGTs.
