We are a woman-owned magazine and we have made it our mission to be a vehicle for Womxn’s voices, art and impact for the last eight years. This isn’t groundbreaking - it’s a no-brainer. Women are to be heard, valued, celebrated and empowered - we would not have made it to issue 99 without the support and power of our local female leaders. Tag the women who inspire you. ♥️

“Look closely at the present you are constructing: it should look like the future you are dreaming.”

– Alice Walker

We’ve said it before and we’ll continue to repeat it over and over again, hope is an act of defiance. It is not passive optimism but a choice to believe in a future worth fighting for. To keep a tight hold on our optimism, we must first acknowledge our grief and fear, yet refuse to be consumed by them. We must continue to find strength in community, in the bonds that continually remind us we are not alone. When we stand together, hope is magnified.

A strong community is built on trust, mutual aid, and shared purpose. It thrives when people listen, uplift one another, and take collective action. Whether through organizing, creating safe spaces, or simply checking in on neighbors, community is resistance against despair.

Continuing to do what we love is an act of rebellion. In a world that seeks to suppress joy and expression, creating art, dancing, writing, or simply gathering with loved ones becomes a powerful statement: we will not be broken. Passion fuels resilience. By engaging in the things that make us feel alive, we refuse to let darkness define us.

Hope is sustained through action. By nurturing joy, supporting one another, and believing in better days, we create the very future we long for—one step, one song, one act of kindness at a time.

Shaleen and Sam DeStefano

In December, it’s tempting to measure the past twelve months in hard metrics—profits earned, projects completed, milestones reached. But here, in the textured pages of our magazine, we understand that true growth doesn’t live on a spreadsheet. It thrives in the communities we build, the stories we tell, and the art you’ve dared to create.

This past year has been one of collective resilience. The local businesses we collaborate with refused to just survive; they thrived, fueled by creativity and an unwavering sense of purpose, they have become cornerstones in our neighborhood. Thanks to you, our audience, supporting local businesses has become a revolution in practice. By now we have a deep understanding that when we buy local, we don’t just invest in a product—we invest in people, in stories, and in the cultures that make up our communities.

Art, as always, was a mirror and a balm. Local womxn artists in particular, led this charge – gracing nine of our covers, showing us that creativity isn’t a luxury—it’s survival, legacy, and power. They reminded us to look inward while pushing boundaries outward.

This year also asked us to interrogate our values. To not just say we stand for equity, justice, and representation, but to build those ideals into the very fabric of our decisions. It was about making room and stepping back to amplify others.

As we look to the next twelve months, we’ll continue to champion the bold, the brave, and the local. We’ll continue to celebrate the stories that matter, the art that challenges, the nonprofits that make a difference and the businesses that make us believe in the power of the collective.

Here’s to another year of building bridges. Thank you for taking this journey with us.

Shaleen and Sam DeStefano
