From Sept. 16-17, 2026, amphibious training will take place in and around the Cherry Point waterways and into and out of Bombing Target 11 at Piney Island in the Pamlico Sound. The training will include live-ammunition exercises.
Throughout the week of Sept. 21, underwater remedial environmental investigations and mu*****ns response activities will be conducted at Bombing Target 2 at Cat Island in the Bogue Sound. These activities may include terrestrial and underwater detonations.

“The exact (funding) goal amount cannot be determined at this time considering the nature of the initiative, however, the estimated goal has largely been achieved via the current grant funding,” Jones said. “As a related note, the development is currently undergoing permit review, which will be another determining factor as to whether acquisition is feasible so there are still pending components toward the project’s implementation.”

According to the developer, Beaufort Crossing would be completed in three phases over a period of seven to 10 years. Phase 1 would focus on groceries, goods and services, Phase 2 on medical and fitness services, and Phase 3 on recreational, office and retail infrastructure.
The Beaufort Crossing plan includes three points of access to the site off of the existing N.C. 101.
