Culinary Historians of Canada inducted two Canadian culinary icons into the 2023 Taste Canada Hall of Fame.

This award recognizes Canada’s culinary heroes who, through books, have helped to shape or influence our distinctive food culture in a significant way and thus have had a lasting impact on Canadian cuisine. ⁠

The first inductee is the late Jean Paré (1927–2022). Jean was a caterer before writing her first cookbook, 150 Delicious Squares, in 1981. She founded Company's Coming , now with over 200 cookbooks. Her recipes use ordinary daily ingredients and “make mealtimes more manageable for millions”. ⁠

The second inductee this year is Anne Lindsay. Anne is widely known through her cookbooks with the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Canadian Cancer Society. She changed Canadian diets by sharing recipes with nutritional information the whole family would eat. ⁠

Congratulations to both inductees and thank you to The Canadian Culinary Historians of Canada for presenting this significant award.⁠

Les Historiens Culinaires du Canada ont intronisé deux icônes culinaires canadiennes au Temple de la Renommée les Lauréats Saveurs du Canada 2023.⁠ ⁠ ⁠

Ce prix récompense les héros culinaires du Canada qui, grâce à leurs livres, ont contribué à façonner ou à influencer de manière significative notre culture gastronomique distinctive et ont ainsi eu un impact durable sur la cuisine canadienne. ⁠

La première personne intronisée est feu Jean Paré (1927-2022). Jean était traiteur avant d'écrire son premier livre de cuisine, 150 Delicious Squares, en 1981. Elle a fondé Company's Coming, qui compte aujourd'hui plus de 200 livres de cuisine. Ses recettes utilisent des ingrédients quotidiens ordinaires et « rendent les repas plus faciles à gérer pour des millions de personnes ». ⁠ ⁠

La deuxième personne intronisée cette année est Anne Lindsay. Anne est largement connue grâce à ses livres de cuisine publiés par la Fondation des Maladies du Cœur et de l'AVC et par la Société Canadienne du Cancer. Elle a changé la façon de s'alimenter des Canadiens en partageant des recettes contenant des informations nutritionnelles que toute la famille mangerait. ⁠ ⁠

As many have already heard, Jean Paré passed on Christmas Eve, 2022, at 95. We start 2023 with heavy hearts but have many fond memories of her kindness and delicious recipes.

She was co-founder of Company’s Coming Publishing and the author of over 200 bestselling books that have become staples worldwide. Her common sense approach to cooking with readily available ingredients attracted cooks and fans to her delight in great home-cooked meals. She was a dear friend and mentor to many who came to learn from her. She was happiest when sharing food and recipes with others.

We hope you think of Jean while preparing meals and baking treats for family and friends.
