This morning at 6:30, the Commodities Breakfast opened in the Grand Lawn, in front of Freedom Hall, where it was moved last year for easier public access. Speakers included Kentucky Expo Center CEO David Beck, members of the Fair Board, and political leaders, including Louisville’s mayor, and Governor Andy Beshear.
They emphasized the Expo Center and Agricultural Center’s importance—not only to the Commonwealth, but to the entire country—and highlighted the $200 million expansion in progress with support from the General Assembly. Senate President Robert Stivers called the venue a vital anchor for agriculture in Kentucky and beyond, hosting over 200 events each year. The Expo Center ranks among the top six facilities of its kind in North America, with a goal to reach number one.
Exhibitors represent all 120 Kentucky counties and most U.S. states, particularly in the livestock division and the World’s Championship Horse Show. This year marks the 121st Kentucky State Fair.
The breakfast featured an array of Kentucky Proud products, served by members of the political community, and drew a record crowd. Following the meal, the official opening took place outside Freedom Hall among the fountains, with remarks from David Beck, Agriculture Commissioner Jonathan Shell, the mayor, Craig Greenberg, and the governor, Andy Beshear, all of whom delivered excellent speeches.
Organizers expect this year’s fair and horse show to be among the best ever, drawing over 600,000 attendees over its 11-day run. Each speaker underscored the shared importance of agriculture, the horse show, and their connection through the Kentucky State Fair at the Kentucky Expo Center.
