We all have a particular scene from a movie that makes us wish we could live it ourselves. Whenever we watch it, it fills us with joy, and we can imagine being right there in that moment. Just because we’re not in that movie doesn’t mean we can’t experience something similar. Our readers share how they re-create (or hope to) their favorite movie moments in their lives:

🎥 Every time I pick up a book or take a walk, I feel like I’m in the opening scene of the 2005 version of “Pride & Prejudice” as she walks while reading in the sunlight. —

🎥 There are many scenes in “Little Women” when the girls are gathered together in a lovely garden or cozy living room with a fire burning low. God gave me a beautiful son and a lovely daughter, and that daughter gave me three lovely granddaughters. I may not be Marmie, but I love to sit and just drink in the beauty of my four Little Women every chance I get. It soothes my soul. —

Most mornings begin the same way, and I find comfort in that. Whether I’m in the office that day or working from home, it always starts by brewing a pot of coffee. While it starts to percolate, I step outside for a few minutes to feel the sun on my face while our dog, Marjie, runs around in the grass. I try to take my time and not rush through my morning routine and do my best to savor it before the busyness of the day sets in.

To fall upward is to rise by letting go – of the need to be right, of the urge to control, of the walls we build around our softer selves. Here are some ways to fall upward:

The bookstore will be open at 11 a.m. I put my key in the lock and lift the gate. Only the security lights are on, but I like working in the half-light. It gives me a cozy feeling. I call our mall bookstore a “shop,” a more romantic, nostalgic word that causes me to recall “You’ve Got Mail” with great affection. In devoted bookseller Kathleen Kelly, I have found a kindred spirit, and it’s in books where I both lose and find myself.

Books open like doors do; they unlock a world. “Readers can lounge across a sofa at home,” says writer Emily Wilcox, “and be flung to the edge of the universe as they do.” How else could you travel so fast and never forget the journey? The covers and titles still bring back memories of my fictional friends and maybe even where I was when I was reading a story. On a plane? On a beach? In my sick bed? They tether me to my own past, to my own story. “In the end,” writes author Margaret Atwood, “we’ll all become stories.”
