β¨Join us May 29 to celebrate people & places that go deeper.
Across Los Angeles, the home has long functioned as a vital cultural architecture and essential third space. In these intimate environments, creative expression and communities form without reliance on mass visibility, institutional validation, or corporate backing. Instead, they are sustained through mutual care, proximity, and intentional sharing of space.
DJ Kerry .djkerry , the force behind The Basement LA embodies this lineage. Resisting the logic of commercial nightlife, by design, it operates as a cocoon for sonic authenticity and deep connection among those in the room.
Founded in 2018, The Basement LA extends from years of DJ Kerryβs collaborative work within LAβs underground nightlife. Through projects like Nitty Gritty, Rice & Beats, and Hang Together, she has consistently held space for q***r- and women-centered nightlife.
More broadly, her work has strengthened creativity and stewardship among DJs, organizers, and attendees across the city and scenes around the world.
As Kerry has said, βThis is the room where you should be able to level upβ. The line speaks less to status than to growth, inviting DJs and guests to stay longer, listen deeper, and evolve together.
In a city shaped by fragmentation and capital barriers, The Basement is a grounding place. We are honored to celebrate DJ Kerryβand all the helpers, dancers, DJs, and members who are The Basement LAβas recipients of the inaugural DUBBY Award.
