Sheriff Mitch Nabors said the Anderson family disappeared in April 2000.

Investigators, including the FBI, are digging in the backyard of a home in the area north of .

Nabors said the search is connected to the disappearance of and her children, Rachel, Cameron and Kyle.

Remains of Shannon Orton Found More Than Four Years After Disappearance; Investigation Ongoing

Shannon Orton was 37 years old when she disappeared from Cressmoor Mobile Home Park in Hobart, Indiana, during the summer of 2020. She last spoke with her family on July 5, 2020, and was last seen about a week later at a CVS pharmacy in Portage, Indiana. Surveillance footage captured Orton wearing orange pants and a light-colored tank top alongside an unidentified woman, who investigators have said is believed to be the last person known to have seen her alive. That surveillance image is in our flyer below.

Despite numerous investigative leads, Orton’s whereabouts remained unknown for more than four years. In the summer of 2023, the Portage Police Department joined the investigation after receiving new information from the Hobart Police Department.

In early 2025, authorities announced that human remains recently discovered in Portage had been positively identified as Orton. Police have not disclosed how or where her remains were found, but confirmed that the investigation into her disappearance has become a death investigation. Detectives believe multiple suspects may be involved and are asking anyone with information regarding Orton’s disappearance or death to come forward.

Orton was the mother of two children. During the search for her, family members pleaded for information and offered a reward, expressing hope that someone with knowledge of what happened would help bring her home.
