As the sun begins to set on Respiratory Care Week 2025, our hearts are full from a weeklong celebration of who we are as a profession.

Patient care can be a single-minded journey. Our goal is so intensely on providing exceptional care that we focus on those things that make us better. We can get caught up in the politics of our departments, sometimes struggling with being a profession more hidden than it is celebrated, with short staffing and paychecks that are swallowed by life.

Just know this. REALLY know this.
There is no greater honor on this Earth than to support all the breaths ... the first ones, the last ones, the struggling ones. Every breath. That is you! Grab ahold of that through the frustrations ... YOU get to support those first transitional breaths of life; that Asthmatic who is desperate for their every breath; that COPDer being qualified for therapies and strategies beyond acute care. That's YOU! Supporting resuscitation. Sitting ECMO. Managing the Jet. Feeling the trauma of all the trauma but finding a way to do what you were trained to do despite the moment. That's YOU!

We are Respiratory Therapists who write pocket guides, test preparation, and educational materials for RTs around the world. We are not like other publishers where respiratory is one aspect of the business; for us respiratory is the only part of the business!

What started more than 35 years ago as a single pocket guide written by Dana Oakes, has developed into a library of 7 best-selling pocket guides used throughout the world. Our newest group of titles is our adult and neo/ped manikin-based simulations, setting a low-cost standard in an exciting area of education. Joining the star-studded cast, using the same philosophy that has made the pocket guides successful, our test preparation (Oakes Academy) has everything you need to be successful with the ACCS advanced credential (other exams coming soon).
