The SOTRACO network in Ouagadougou has been given a facelift with a massive expansion that will transform mobility in Ouagadougou, featuring 13 new regular routes and 9 new inter-municipal routes that have been approved.

But beyond the numbers, it was the festive atmosphere that marked the completion of the work. Since SOTRACO belongs to the people, everyone wants a say... and friendly banter set the tone for the discussions.

The biggest clash was at the municipal level over the routes and stops for the intercity lines. Everyone wanted the bus to pass through their neighborhood or village, or to be named after their local chief.

One scene, in fact, summed up all the magic of our culture: an old Samo man, sitting at the back of the room, chuckled to himself as he called out loud: “So the ‘naam’ (power) of the Mossis here—is that now spilling over into the SOTRACO buses?” 😂

Behind the laughter and this healthy rivalry between towns, one reality stands out: the people have fully embraced their SOTRACO without reservation😂.

Expectations are sky-high, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the journey has only just begun.

Together, we’ll make it happen

How it all started.
This photograph reminds me of where the journey began. Before leadership comes sacrifice, discipline, and service to the people. Every step of my past continues to shape my commitment to Burkina Faso.
