I was envious of a neighbor getting new furniture until I was reminded of those who are grateful for a park bench. I was tired of the size of my home until I heard a child from another country mention how wealthy we are in this country because even our cars had a house to live in. That's when I kneeled in shame and rose in thanksgiving for the hot weather. But especially, the warm nights." BROTHER TIAJA

MORNING THOUGHTS FROM THE M.S.: "A single word ill-conceived, misread, or ill-received can create a mighty disturbance in us. It can potentially cause moments of anger, days of frustration, and even the tiniest hint of joy to evaporate. Perhaps this is why we cannot grow beyond our present situation. Could this be why are we still looking for wars to fight? Any opportunity to give life meaning? Why do we still look for a church, mosque, temple, or synagogue to bring our life to the threshing floor of salvation? Somehow we think that if we simply pray long enough or get lucky enough to win some sort of spiritual lottery that our lives will become richer with meaning. Yet, it is all false! For once we lose our joy, we lose the vitality of hope that keeps life moving forward. We also lose the courage to be ourselves. To live life qualitatively versus quantitatively. And when life becomes a known quantity, its quality is lost. And so too our ability to dream. So today, I pray that we all still have a dream." BROTHER TIAJA

Life has insulted them one too many times, and now they have dropped something. Insults that deserve tears. Pain that has stolen years. They have left something behind. Until dawn is flooded with night terrors. Yet, in their utter darkness with their tents surrounded by a dozen hands of hopelessness, there will come a voice their faith could not have demanded. Why are you holding a funeral? Don't you know God blesses his people? Suddenly they will realize there was no deceased body. No reason to cry. No bandages to remove. As if the sky itself has opened up. Still, it was too late to console the small child inside the tent. For tears of joy have no responsibility. And, from that very moment, the child knew everything had changed forever." BROTHER TIAJA
