Comets and Jays Competitive Cheer get Seasons Underway

The competitive cheer season got underway for the Greenville High School girls team last weekend.

GHS competed in two competitions in an attempt to qualify for the Illinois Cheer Coaches Association state tournament.

Greenville competed in both the Game Day and Routine Divisions at Highland and Edwardsville.

“This year we are trying something new with the Game Day Division,” said GHS cheer coach Amanda Goldsboro. “It is a division ran by the ICCA that includes elements you would see in more of a game setting. We are still competing our traditional routine this year as well.”

With their results so far this season Greenville has qualified for ICCA state in the Game Day Division.

Nearly 600 Southwestern Electric members served by the Smithboro Substation in eastern Bond County are without power this morning due to an Ameren transmission issue. Ameren crews are currently investigating the source of the outage, and no estimated time of restoration is yet available. We will provide further updates as they come.
