Waking up today, I realized that one year and a day from today I am eligible to start collecting my pension from the musicians' union. Commercial work is very lucrative and yet the words of violist William Primrose come to mind when he spoke of his days in the NBC Radio Orchestra as being part of "...the general anonymity of an orchestra..." When you watch a tv show or movie, the credits usually do not include the names of the team that makes up the musical sounds. We are paid well to not care. And yet some of us DO care- this is why I love making a positive impact in people's lives, whether playing a musical performance that has connection with the global masses, the audience in the concert hall with me, listeners of my solo recordings, or acroyoga/scubadiving/Reiki energy students of mine.

My mentor, Mr. Ken Lauher, just reminded me today that the quicker we recover from the inevitable challenges that life brings us, the faster and more efficient we will be in manifesting success.
Today is clearning & clearing for me.
I am SSSOOOOO excited that I will have a sign language interpreter this weekend for my two classes at @bigbearyogafest!!!! This is absolutely THE BEST yoga experience for a person with no hearing as we communicate mostly by touching our partner in this movement modality called #acroyoga.
The 9am class will focus only on partner stretching (acroyoga therapeutics) and the 2pm class will have a brief partner stretch warm up moving directly in to partner lifting.
A major component in the acroyoga practice is communicating with our partner when we want to come out of a pose. The usual practice is to say "down". With the deaf person and their partner, they will practice squeeze communications. Attention to breathing will also be our focus. Slow, deep, controlled breathing is most important as it calms the body physically and mentally, allowing one to have smooth controlled movement which is important to find and maintain a partner pose.
"AcroYoga" is a combined discipline of yoga, acrobatics, partner dance. At the beginner level, which is what I will be teaching at Big Bear this weekend, we focus on finding one pose at a time. We will practice getting into and out of the pose a few times, and then we will take turns doing each pose again from the three elemental positions in an acroyoga shape.
The three elemental positions of acroyoga are base (person doing the lifting), flyer (one being lifted), spotter (safety assistant). As I teach, I will give a precise explanation of the role and position of the base/flyer/spotter in relation to the other parts of the pose.
Part of my teaching style is that I introduce each pose with a different person in the class, so I will definitely have one-on-one time with each person in class!

The most wonderful experiences in life are about finding the common denominators between people. I got to share some quality time with five beautiful spirits yesterday on the westside of LA- starting off a beautiful morning n Venice at #MysticJourneyBookstore with my brand new acroyoga student @beautydivineofficial and my favorite regular acroyogini student @trainwithlorraine, I led these #SuperMoms in a sequence of poses that worked on strength/flexibility/stability. Everyone left with an exciting new list of skills to add to their daily workout routine. .

After class, Puppy Maximus Maximillian Puffington Esquire and I headed over to our favorite park to get in a run and snack before driving home, and as we were walking onto the green, a voice shouted out "Hey, you're a friend of Kevin!' Surrounded by magical faerie energy of a trio of fantastic aerial athletes, Maximus got maximum snuggles, I got all caught up with @leanybme on life/work/love, and had a fun little #RandomActOfAcro.🤸🏾♀️🤸🏼♀️🤸🏻♀️🤸♀️🐶💞 Biggest compliment was when the birthday girl told me she's never done acro before because she's never had the trust to not fall💞🙏🏾💞

Living in the here and now.
It is so important to be in a place of gratitude for one's physical and mental health. When we are distracted or allow other things to distract us from paying close attention to what is immediately in front of us, the potential for accidents large and small are dramatically increased. The fact that where one is at the present moment is not fully appreciated either.
It is like the person who will not go to the beach/pool party because they want to lose weight to look better in their swimsuit, or the perfectionist who procrastinates about writing a perfect letter so they never get around to publishing that book/blog/yelp review, or the people who are unwilling to go to yoga class because they "aren't that flexible".
I am a big believer of living in a space of gratitude, experiencing and exploring the world. Chit chatting this week with a young fellow at a coffee shop, I complimented him on his nice haircut to which he replied that he was going to have it cleaned up that day when he was off of work because he was getting a full week off. I asked him where he was going to vacation and he said he was planning on staying home and catching up on sleep after all the Labor Day overtime he had put in. I said "NO!" I encouraged him to visit the nearby beaches which are now going to be free and clear of the crazy traffic and hordes of people, or drive up the coastline and take advantage of his hospitality employment discounts that are offered at places along PCH. He hadn't thought about that because he hadn't made a travel plan. He did know about the service industry comps and discounts but had never explored using them. I encouraged him to just hop in the car and drive north along the coastline, stopping here & there to take pictures along the way, no plans needed. I fully expect to have a nice collection of photos to look at from his journey.
Here's to being aware and appreciative of one's surroundings. Live life💞🙏🏾💞
