Catholic schools across the United States commenced the celebration of National Catholic Schools Week on Sunday, January 25, launching a week dedicated to highlighting the value, mission, and impact of Catholic education. Observed annually since 1974, the celebration runs through Saturday, January 31. This year’s theme, “Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community,” underscores the role of Catholic schools in forming students academically and spiritually while strengthening ties among families, parishes, and local communities. National Catholic Schools Week is organized by the National Catholic Educational Association. Since the week’s opening, schools have marked the occasion with special Masses, community service projects, open houses, appreciation events for teachers and staff, and student-centered activities. These events emphasize the core pillars of Catholic education: faith formation, academic excellence, and service to others. Educators and Church leaders note that Catholic schools continue to make significant contributions to the Church and to society by nurturing students’ moral values, leadership skills, and commitment to the common good. Throughout the week, schools are highlighting their impact not only on students and families, but also on neighborhoods and the nation at large. National Catholic Schools Week also serves as an opportunity to welcome parishioners and community members onto campuses, offering a glimpse into the distinctive, faith-based learning environment Catholic schools provide. In addition to this annual celebration, Catholic schools observe Discover Catholic Schools Week each November to connect with prospective families. Together, these efforts affirm the enduring mission of Catholic schools to educate young people in faith, knowledge, and service.
