Today, members of DREA gathered at Bethel Baptist Church to celebrate Georgia Retired Educators Day, an annual event held on the first Sunday in November. This occasion recognizes the lasting impact of retired teachers, administrators, and school staff. The day paid homage to retired educators who dedicated their careers to teaching, mentoring, and shaping the lives of students in Dooly County, ultimately building stronger communities and a more educated county.

At DREA, the safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority. As Halloween approaches, we encourage families to enjoy the season in a safe and fun environment. DREA was excited to have participateed in the Trunk or Treat event at K-8 Academy. Students enjoyed decorated car trunks, candy giveaways, music, and gamesโ€”all within a supervised area. Our goal is to help provide a festive experience where children can dress up, collect treats, and make memories while parents enjoy peace of mind knowing their kids are in a secure setting.

Attendance Matters! DREA and BOE member, Ms. Minnie Harper knows this all too well as she has been an educator in our school system for 50 years. Sheโ€™s still showing up for our students and encouraging them to attend and stay in school.

Message from K-8 Academy:
๐Ÿ“š Did you know? Good attendance is one of the strongest predictors of student success! ๐ŸŽ“
Here are some eye-opening facts about how showing up makes all the difference:
โœ… Students with 95%+ attendance are 5x more likely to graduate on time
โœ… Missing just 2 days per month (considered "chronic absenteeism") can put students a full year behind in reading by 3rd grade
โœ… Good attendance habits in elementary school carry forward - students learn the value of consistency and responsibility early
โœ… Students with strong attendance have higher test scores, better social connections, and increased confidence in their abilities
Every day matters! When students are present, they don't just learn the lesson - they build relationships, participate in discussions, and develop the routine that sets them up for lifelong success.
Parents and caregivers: Your support in prioritizing attendance makes a huge difference. Together, we can help every student reach their full potential! ๐Ÿ’ช
