A strange story from 2013 is back in the spotlight in 2025: Alan Markovitz became infamous for installing a giant middle finger statue aimed at his ex-wife’s new partner.

Markovitz, now 59, grabbed headlines when he bought a house right next to his ex-wife after learning she had allegedly started seeing someone else. The unusual move wasn’t the only shocking part—it was the 12-foot bronze middle finger statue he placed in his backyard, pointing toward her property and lit by spotlights to ensure it could be seen both day and night.

In interviews, Markovitz clarified that the statue wasn’t aimed at his ex-wife but at her new partner, who reportedly began the relationship while he was still married. “I’m over her,” he told local media. “This is about him, not being a man.”

The statue, costing about $7,000 (around Rs 6.1 lakh), quickly grabbed public attention. Photos went viral after Lenka Tuohy, believed to be the ex-wife’s daughter, posted an image online, captioning: “How psychotic do you have to be to buy the house next to your ex-wife and put up a statue like that? Real classy, Alan.”

Twelve years later, the middle finger statue is remembered as one of Detroit’s most bizarre breakup stories—a tale of betrayal, unusual revenge, and a striking message preserved forever in bronze.
