The predecessor to The Lovely Lads and The Public Good, The Popes are releasing their long lost album and need your help. See the Linktree link in the bio. The first EP by Chapel Hill, NC's The Popes, "Hi, We're The Popes," surprised everyone, most notably the band members, with its glowing reviews from Billboard, Cashbox, Jon Pareles of the NY Times, and many more in 1988-89. At one point, the EP was one place higher than REM's latest record on the College Music Journal's "recent release" airplay chart.
The band never released their second album, recorded in 1991-2, and it's been shelved since then, despite former WXYC music directer Glenn Boothe calling his bootleg copy "a masterpiece." The Popes
