Return to the days of live radio plays — complete with sound effects — when Grosse Pointe Theatre stages Marty Bufalini’s “It’s a Wonderful Life — The Radio Show” Dec. 10 to 19 at the Parcells Middle School auditorium, 20600 Mack Ave. (at Vernier Road) in Grosse Pointe Woods.
Bufalini, a professional actor and radio personality, brought his love for old-time radio by adapting the beloved movie into a live radio production, enabling audiences to enjoy this holiday classic — about an ordinary man who discovers how he has made a positive impact on the lives of those around him — and see how old radio shows were once made.
“This is a show within a show, with the actors bringing to life the beloved characters from (the) ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ movie produced and directed by Frank Capra, starring Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, Lionel Barrymore and a host of other talent from that era,” Bufalini, of Grosse Pointe City, said in a press release. “Our sound effects team recreates many of the sound effects live on stage to help tell the story in this fast-moving production.”
A number of local media personalities will be making guest appearances throughout the run of the show.
In keeping with a Wayne County mask mandate for schools, all patrons must wear masks, regardless of vaccination status. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by visiting www.gpt.org or calling (313) 881-4004.
