The 300 Spartans Who Refused to Surrender

In **480 BC**, one of history's most legendary battles took place at a narrow mountain pass called **Thermopylae**.
The mighty Persian Empire, led by **King Xerxes I**, invaded Greece with a massive army.
Standing in their way was a small Greek force led by **King Leonidas of Sparta**.
Among them were just **300 Spartan warriors**, carefully chosen because each had a son to carry on his family name if he fell in battle.
For two days, the Spartans and their Greek allies used the narrow pass to stop the Persian advance, despite being vastly outnumbered.

In the early hours of September 2, 1666, a small fire broke out in a bakery on Pudding Lane in London.
At first, no one imagined that this ordinary fire would become one of the greatest disasters in British history.
