Here is this week's board meeting schedule.

Additionally, Matthew Morton is due back in court on Wednesday, September 9th. I plan to attend and hope it isn't a waste of time like his first hearing, where nothing got accomplished and got postponed.

Friday is the 25th anniversary of 9/11, the most lethal terror attack in American history and one that claimed the lives of seven Warwick residents (and one woman who was in the process of moving here). I have seen various memorials etc. that will be happening and will post separately if it's something people are interested in.

At last night's meeting, Brian Singer went before the planning board to discuss the proposed demolition and dismantlement of the vacant residential dwelling on the site of the future Liberty Fields Farm Subdivision. As discussed yesterday, the house was formerly the one room Sanfordville Schoolhouse, constructed around 1790.

Singer, a seasoned builder and restoration enthusiast, has evaluated the structure and determined that it has suffered severe structural decay. Beyond that, the framework of the front of the house is the only original feature left. The back of the house is an addition from 1990 and there have been many changes in subsequent decades: the entrance was moved, the windows, roof, and interior all changed, and new siding was added.

To prevent the total loss of historical materials, Singer plans to demolish the addition in traditional fashion and then dismantle the schoolhouse portion. His hope is to salvage portions of the roof as well as the beams, to be used in the restoration of the barn that is on the property.

Note: Any historical facts within this post are per Singer at last night's meeting. I know the schoolhouse is very old and I also know that it was moved from its original location to the current one, but I am not certain re: accuracy of dates.

It's not specified on the agenda, so I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm pretty sure this is the building that will be discussed at tonight's meeting for possible demolition.

I grew up knowing this as the Bollenbach's house (I'm 39, for reference), but this structure has a long history in Warwick-- dating back to the 1800s when it was the Sanfordville Schoolhouse.

As I typically do with questions related to Warwick history, I reached out to Town Deputy Historian Alan Held, and he did not disappoint. Seriously, that guy is an encyclopedia and I am very glad to have him as a resource.

I will be posting more info about this later (my child doesn't start preschool until next week), but wanted to provide some context in the meantime.
