Smart Guy (1997–1999)
Created by Danny Kallis, this sitcom follows T.J. Henderson, a Black child prodigy who skips several grades and suddenly finds himself in high school with his older brother & sister.
The show mixed family comedy with storylines about school, growing up, and figuring out where you fit in. Especially as a smart kid 😆
A favorite among 90s Black kids, Smart Guy celebrated Black intelligence, family, and ambition without making T.J.’s genius his entire identity.
And I was obsessed because everyone told I looked like T.J. 😆, we were the same age, and my initials are T.J., so I’m not saying they stole my life but … 👀
