❗️To the President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the Government ❗️
There is a critical issue undermining your government that requires your immediate attention: the conduct of the state-owned Daily Graphic
It is understood that journalists and institutions funded by the state operate under a different set of expectations than private individuals or entities.
They have a profound responsibility to serve the entire public, not to act as a propaganda arm for a single political party.
For years, and particularly in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections, the Daily Graphic especially its social media platforms abandoned this duty.
Its coverage became overwhelmingly hostile toward the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Nearly every statement from any NDC-affiliated individual, from your good self to the most junior member, was systematically misconstrued and presented with a clear tone of mischief.
This bias flourished unchecked, a symptom of the "anything goes" political environment that characterized the Akufo-Addo era.
Disturbingly, this trend has not only continued after the 2024 election but has escalated to new heights of unprofessionalism.
The Daily Graphic a state-owned news platform has effectively become a headquarters for yellow journalism, JANDAM and outright stupidity.
1. Deliberate Misquotation: The paper has developed a habit of deliberately misquoting government officials. When called out, they simply delete the offending post without any apology or correction, acting with a baffling sense of impunity.
2. Spreading False Narratives: Just weeks ago, the paper was the primary promoter of the false narrative that the Ghana cedi was the "world's worst-performing currency," a claim that was demonstrably and absolutely untrue, yet damaging to national confidence.
3. Forging Quotes: Yesterday, they hit a new low by publicly attributing a fabricated statement to the Vice President, Her Excellency Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang. Their subsequent, quiet apology is meaningless without consequences for those responsible.
If the editors and writers at the Daily Graphic wish to engage in petty politics, they are free to resign their posts and join the political arena.
However, it is utterly disgusting and a betrayal of public trust for them to hide behind the credibility of a state-owned agency to wage a covert war against the very government machinery they are meant to serve.
This cannot be allowed to continue. Some may dismiss these actions as inconsequential, but we must not forget that it was a sustained campaign of deliberate lies and media bias that significantly contributed to your defeat in 2016.
That victory brought Akufo-Addo and Bawumia to power, an administration whose legacy is widely viewed as one of national decline, the worst to ever happen in our history.
Your Excellency, you are known as a leader who values democracy, decency, and civil discourse.
We understand your inclination to take the high road, However, this is not a matter of political niceties; it is an active campaign to derail your government before it even has a chance to fully commence its work.
Your government must face this threat head-on.
We urge you and your team to:
1. Investigate the leadership of the Daily Graphic immediately. For they have consistently demonstrated they are against your person, your appointees, your party and Government.
They are always up to some mischief to satisfy their political ego.
2. Institute immediate changes in whoever is responsible for this culture of biased and reckless reporting.
3 Re-establish the integrity of our state-owned media particularly with Daily Graphic and GBC.
To ignore this is to live with the consequences.
The deliberate lies will not stop; they will only fester and grow, aimed at distorting your achievements and undermining your person and that of the noble Vice President.
Respectfully,
Loud Silence Media-LSM
