How do you measure success in footwear? 🤔

Camp outs? Resale prices? SOTY mentions? 🧐

When DTLR’s first DMV New Balance 990 dropped back in 2014, June was overwhelmed by the amount of organic support from the community. But it was one circumstance in particular that let him know he had made something special…

S/o to Sportsmart! 😄

Ever innovate by accident?

There weren’t too many clothing brand entrepreneurs putting blank tees in store-bought freezer bags back in the early 2000s. In fact, nobody was doing it, except for June.

An idea born out of pure trial and error, Luxe-T’s signature packaging set a new standard in product merchandising for apparel.

How hard are you willing to work to make people believe in your dream? What obstacles or challenges are you willing to overcome in the process? 🏋️‍♂️

For June, that meant pushing past a cancelled purchase order—his biggest sale at that point—to cultivate a customer base from the ground up. 📈

It meant innovating a unique form of product presentation and packaging to convince people that the quality of Luxe-T was incomparable—and that reputation stands strong to this day. (Check the comments from the previous post.)

Often times consumers only see the final product, but what does it take to produce something at scale? 🤔

Especially if that something has nothing on it. 🧐

Off the strength of an introduction by his late friend and business partner, June unintentionally set a new standard in apparel design by offering premium essentials.

What was originally included as part of a product presentation to Up Against The Wall would later become known as the Luxe-T, and would ultimately serve as the blank canvas for legendary local streetwear brands like HOBO, Shooters, We R One, and more.

Imagine building a product from scratch and putting a brand on your back only to have it held hostage by parasites posing as partners?

When June created Luxe-T over 20 years ago he had no idea that one day it would be taken away from him.

Today, his story serves as a testimony to every creative with a profitable idea. Protecting your IP is no joke.

Some of the best gems from Ep 1 Pt 1 were the subtle moments of reflection and wisdom that June earned from being in the industry for over two decades. 💎💎💎

A storied career that began with humility and hustle, June’s heart is what keeps him at the top of his game.

But unfortunately, almost every person with a big heart has at least one story about a time when it broke. 💔

Stay tuned for Ep 1 Pt 2! 👀

Let the record reflect for all that have ever inquired or questioned where the DMV/DC metro area starts and ends—if you see any signs that say Baltimore, you’ve gone too far. 😆

And that’s coming from June, Product Director at DTLR—which is headquartered in “Charm City.” 😄

When people talk about streetwear (or sportswear) and the urban communities that have paved the way for certain fashion trends to reach the masses, the DMV/DC Metro region rarely receive recognition for odd some reason. 🤔

🗣️ So let’s set the record straight.

Introducing Episode 1, featuring DTLR Product Director and DMV design icon, June Sanders. ()

June's extensive resume spans decades of active duty in retail fashion and sales along the entire Mid-Atlantic, making him the perfect candidate to speak up on our behalf.
