TRUMP GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE

Hurricane Milton did a job on the signs and trash merchandise at the 'TRUMP SHOP' on Rt 41 near SRQ International Airport.

And if there was an question about who funded the Kennedy Jr. bid for third party president, directly across the street is the abandoned Kennedy campaign office.

The Delusional, thrise Impeached, 43 Felon Convicted, S*x Offender and Pathological liar's days are numbered and he has an 11/5/2024 Expiration Date on his Fat Back!

AT THE CROSSROADS!

Grateful to report only minor roof tile damage to the Ponderosa in Sarasota following a Mandatory Evacuation last Tuesday. I attribute some of my good fortune to a Gullah Geechee tradition of painting the entrance of a house with 'haint blue' cielings and doors to trick evil spirits, or "haints" into thinking it is the Sky which keeps them evil spirits from entering!

Learned that Low Country Soth Carolina tradition from my friends at 'Mama Joy's Kitchen' on Hilton Head Island, and painted all my shutters 'haint' blue and only had one shutter come loose in the 96 MPH winds that blew past the SRQ airport only 10 minutes away!

As I surveyed the damage on the ground from the closed SRQ International Airport to Marina Jack's Bayside Marina, what struck me most was the image of the CROSSROADS Church on N. Tamiami Trial with a blue tarp on the roof and fallen trees at its entrance.

For those not familiar with Sarasota's economy, November ushers in the "High Season" for the resort beachfront properties along Siesta Key. Lido Beach, Longboat Key and Anna Maria Island, all of which have been wipped out by the double wammy of hurricanes Helene and Milton.

It will take a year for the hospitatlity and real estate economy to recover, so this devastating damage is both a Spiritual and economic recogning for the town often referred to as "Martha Vinyard South"!

The power restoration estimate from Florida Power & Light is Thursday, October 17th, and I had to visit 4 local hotels to find one with WiFi, but NO AVAILABLE ROOMS for anyone but out-of-state restoration contractors!

HURRICANE MILTON AFTERMATH

There is nothing more nerve ratteling than riding out a hurricane in the middle of the night! I Got Lucky, and as my favorite NFL Coach Tom Landry used to say, "Luck Is When Opportunity Meets Preparation"!

General Manager Devon Spaulding and the extraordinary staff of the Residence Inn Tampa never panicked, as they kept 17 staffers on site and called a 7 pm meeting the night of the storm landing for all the guests to run down the safety procedures and floor captain asssignments.

When GM Spaulding went into Decon mode I was relieved when he said a closing prayer and assured the guests that, "We are going to continue to work in our Purpose, and not to worry about the wind, it's just Mother Nature whispering to you!"

The 100 MPH winds tore off the roof of the Tropicana Stadium and dumped over 12 inches of rain in St. Pete, but there was only minor damage at the Marriott Residence Inn I sayed at including wind damage outside my room on the third floor.

And the best news today, was despite Sarasota being the target landing city, I learned that there was no water or wind damage to my property and all I need to wait for is power to be restored by Florida Power & Light!

Not to minimize the catastrophic damage to neighbors from Bradenton to St. Pete, I can now report that following a mandatory evacuation, my Florida hometown of Sarasota survived a direct hit from Hurricane Milton!

FLORIDA DEMOCRATS

After updating my voter registration, I received an invitation to "MEET NEW DEMOCRATS"!

The Sarasota County Democratic headquarters are in south county half way to Venice, and the remnents of hurricane HELENE knocked out the power.

But a small but enthusistic group of canvassers picked up their materials and braved a steady rain this morning to knock on doors in a decidedly conservative county.

I also found out that all the national party 'resources' are going to Tampa and the Miami-Dade area.

As a former resident of Pennsylvania, the urban legend is that "there is Philly, Pittsburgh and Alabama in between"! But I'm confident that PA;s electoral votes will go in the Democratic column.

But FloriDUH can be a downright hostile as you venture up Rt 75 to Gainsville and Tampa, where a Giant Confederate Flag is flagrantly flown In-Your-Face off the Martin L. King Jr. boulevard exit.

But at least we can count on North Carolina now that the Black N**i got burned at a BarB QUE!

DC JAZZ FEST HIGHLIGHTS

As the sun began to set and thunderstorms cancelled the outdoor set on the Wharf, I chose to return to the Arena Stage and take in the Terri Lynn Carrington performance which turned out to be the highlight of the festival.

As a tribute to women in jazz, Carrington set the stage for a triumphant celebration that wove in over a dozen musicians and topped it off with a vocal showcase of Dianne Reeves, who scatted and blew the Arena Stage audience away with her virtuoso performance.

Add the poetry and interpretive dance of Christiana Haunte, and the magical harp of Brandee Younger, and Terri Lynn directed a masterful performance from her perch behind the drums, that invited three keyboard players, two of whom were woman composers; Ben Williams on bass; Martin Sanchez and Josh Evens on horns; and still had room for guitarist Nick Payton and local vocalist Christie Dashiell from Upper Marlboro to share the stage with her mentor Dianne Reeves.

DC JF 20TH ANNIVERSAY
JAZZ AT THE AUSTRALIAN EMBASSY ATRIUM

Lakecia Benjamin and her band Phoenix blew the doors off the recently renovated Atrium of the Australian embassy to open the 20th Anniversary celebration of the DC Jazz Festival.

She was joined by an Aussie legend and the Artistic Director of the Queensland Music Festival and honorary inductee into the Graeme Bell Hall of Fame 2013 at the Australian Jazz Bell Awards. He is known for conducting the World's Largest Orchestra in Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, consisting of 7,224 musicians.

They jammed and raised the roof in the Atrium as a standing room only crowd also honored DC JAZZ FESTIVAL Founder Charley Fishman, who legend has it along with his wife Stephanie Peters conceived the festival on the back of a napkin in an Adams Morgan bar.

But it was all about the Benjamin, as Lakecia dazzled the stylish crowd with her Gold Lame jumpsuit and Miles Davis aviator frames set the upbeat vibe on the birthday of Alice Coltrane and dedicated a suite to her Pursuance CD from her last appearance at the DC JAZZ FEST.

But the James Morrison collaboration was an unexpected bonus and made the Australian Embassy event a stylish 20Th Anniversary debut!

CANDLELIGHT CONCERT

The St. Boniface Episcopal Church on Midnight Pass Road in the Siesta Key arts sector hosted a divinely uplifting Candlelight Concert featuring a suite of classical music by a quartet of local musicians.

Chi on the Viola, Nadine on the Cello, Jordan and Yuan Yuan on lead violins transformed the overflow music lovers in the church sanctuary into and acoustical wonderland.

The 18th Century concertos were an example of early narrative style that thematically covered the Four Seasons starting with Spring, through Summer and ending with a Winter suite.
