🌍 A Mathematical Model Once Predicted “Doomsday” for November 13, 2026 — But What Did It Really Mean?
A mysterious prediction from more than 60 years ago has resurfaced online: Friday, November 13, 2026, was once described as a mathematical “doomsday” for humanity.
The idea dates back to 1960, when Heinz von Foerster, Patricia Mora, and Lawrence Amiot published a paper in Science titled “Doomsday: Friday, 13 November, A.D. 2026.”
📊 The researchers analyzed historical human-population growth and created a mathematical model based on the rapid increase observed at the time. When they extended that curve into the future, the model reached a theoretical singularity on November 13, 2026—a point where the calculated population would approach infinity.
⚠️ But this was never a prediction that Earth would explode or humanity would suddenly vanish.
Instead, the date represented the point at which the mathematical model itself would become unrealistic. An infinitely large human population is physically impossible, so the result was essentially a warning about what could happen if population growth continued indefinitely under the assumptions of the model.
🌱 Since 1960, however, global demographic trends have changed significantly. Population growth has slowed, meaning real-world data no longer follow the extreme trajectory assumed by the original model.
Interestingly, November 13 was also von Foerster’s birthday, adding an ironic touch to the paper’s dramatic title.
🔭 So, will the world actually end on November 13, 2026?
No credible scientific evidence suggests that it will.
The real lesson behind the famous “Doomsday” date is about the limits of mathematical models. A model can produce an extraordinary result when a trend is extrapolated indefinitely—but reality doesn't have to follow that mathematical curve.

☀️🚀 CHINA WANTS TO BUILD A GIANT SOLAR POWER STATION IN SPACE
China is exploring one of the most ambitious energy concepts ever proposed: a kilometer-scale solar power station in geostationary orbit, about 36,000 km (22,370 miles) above Earth. 🌍
The idea is to deploy enormous solar arrays in space, where they could collect sunlight without the interruptions of nighttime. The electricity could then potentially be converted into microwaves and transmitted wirelessly to receiving stations on Earth. ⚡📡
🔭 HOW BIG COULD IT BE?
Chinese rocket scientist Long Lehao has described the concept as comparable in significance to moving the Three Gorges Dam into geostationary orbit.
A proposed solar array could be roughly 1 kilometer wide, but constructing something this massive in orbit would require numerous launches, advanced robotics and large-scale assembly techniques.
☀️ WHY SOLAR POWER IN SPACE?
Ground-based solar panels stop producing electricity at night and can be affected by clouds and weather. A space-based system could receive sunlight for much longer periods and potentially deliver a more continuous supply of renewable energy.
Japan’s space agency JAXA has also studied space-based solar power and the possibility of transmitting energy from orbit to Earth.
🛰️ THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE: BUILDING IT
A structure nearly 1 kilometer across cannot simply be launched as a single spacecraft. Instead, engineers would likely need to launch components separately and assemble them in orbit.
China is researching technologies for constructing extremely large structures in space, including lightweight and high-strength materials designed for orbital assembly.
Researchers are also working on wireless power transmission. In 2026, Chinese researchers reported a ground-based demonstration achieving 20.8% DC-to-DC transmission efficiency over 100 meters—but major technological and economic challenges remain.
⚡ SCIENCE FICTION OR FUTURE POWER GRID?
The basic technologies behind space-based solar power are real, but a kilometer-scale operational station does not exist today.
Engineers still face enormous challenges involving launch costs, orbital construction, structural stability, energy conversion, transmission efficiency, maintenance and safety.
If these obstacles can eventually be overcome, space-based solar power could transform how humanity generates renewable energy—collecting sunlight above Earth and beaming the energy back to the planet. 🌍☀️

A 3-Billion-Mile Journey to Pluto! 🪐
NASA’s New Horizons spacecraft traveled for nearly 9 years and covered about 3 billion miles (4.8 billion km) before reaching Pluto and revealing its surface in incredible detail.
On July 14, 2015, New Horizons made history as the first spacecraft to perform a close-up exploration of Pluto. During its flyby, it passed just 7,750 miles (12,500 km) above Pluto’s surface while traveling at more than 30,000 mph (48,000 km/h). 🚀
One of its most breathtaking discoveries was Pluto’s towering water-ice mountains near the equatorial region of Tombaugh Regio. Some peaks rise roughly 11,000 feet (3,500 meters) above the surrounding landscape. 🏔️❄️
Even more surprising, these mountains appear relatively young—possibly around 100 million years old. Their youthful appearance suggests Pluto may have remained geologically active much more recently than scientists once expected.

On August 30, 2026, skywatchers can look toward the eastern sky for a beautiful celestial gathering featuring the Moon, Saturn, and distant Neptune. 🌌

Deep beneath East Africa, powerful tectonic forces are slowly pulling parts of the continent in different directions. The East African Rift is gradually widening, creating faults, valleys, and dramatic changes across the landscape.
🌊 Over millions of years, if this rifting continues, the region could sink and eventually allow seawater to enter, potentially forming a new ocean and separating eastern Africa from the rest of the continent.

🚀 A Historic Honor for the Artemis II Crew! 🌙🏅
NASA’s Artemis II astronauts — Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen — have received the prestigious Congressional Space Medal of Honor, one of the highest recognitions in U.S. human spaceflight.
The honor was presented by President Donald Trump during a ceremony at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston on August 28, 2026.
Their recognition follows the historic 10-day Artemis II mission around the Moon, completed on April 10. Artemis II was the first crewed flight of NASA’s Orion spacecraft and Space Launch System (SLS), sending humans beyond the Moon for the first time in more than five decades. The crew also traveled farther from Earth than any humans before them, reaching approximately 252,756 miles (406,000 km) from home. 🌍➡️🌙
The Congressional Space Medal of Honor recognizes astronauts whose extraordinary achievements represent exceptionally meritorious contributions to the nation and humanity. Although it is a congressional honor, the medal is awarded by the U.S. president following recommendations from the NASA administrator.

On April 13, 2029, asteroid Apophis will make an exceptionally close flyby of Earth. 🌍✨
At around 340 meters wide, Apophis will pass approximately 32,000 km above Earth’s surface—closer than many satellites orbit our planet. 😳
And here’s the amazing part: depending on location and viewing conditions, millions of people may be able to spot it with the naked eye as a rapidly moving point of light crossing the sky. 👀☄️
But this isn’t a disaster story.
Earth’s gravity will significantly alter Apophis’s trajectory during the encounter, giving scientists a rare opportunity to study how a large asteroid behaves during an extremely close planetary flyby. 🔭🌌
Scientists once investigated whether Apophis could pass through a tiny gravitational “keyhole” that might have changed its future orbit.
