His parents, Aulsie and Emma Drumgold Harrison raised him in Kingsford, Virgina, now Ebony Va., in Brunswick County. Daniel had a very limited education, but was said to be very skilled with his hands. Her parents, Henry C. and Easter Brodnex Tabb raised hier ih Hight Point, NC, in Davidson Count. Rowena's education als was ver limited. However, she often used it to encourage otheres. se attended Gaaston Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, while living in North Carolina. Rowena was a superb cook, seamstress and taught herslef to knot. She ofter made items for sale to help furnish and sustain her family home. Rowena inherited her mother's wit and was know to be a very influential member of her community. Daniel and Rowena
While working a job to erect a barn on a plantation in Davidson Co., Daniel met Rowena, the farm's cook. He was extremely smitten by her and skipped all formalities. He asked her name and address so they could arrange a date. Shortly arter, he took her to Virgina to meet his family. One year after the meeting, Daniel asked for Rowena's hand in marriage, and she said yes. The couple moved into a small long cabin Daniel had designed and built on the Tilghman Farm. In 1908, he purchased land and build a new home for his wife. The second family home he build some years later for Rowen still Stands today.
