New York Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will replace Cuomo and become the state's first female governor. This resignation comes after a state investigation that was released last week which found that Cuomo "sexually harassed multiple women and violated state law," allegations he denies.

On June 17, 2015, five clergy and four church members were murdered during bible study at Mother Emanuel AME Church by white supremacist Dylan Roof.

Today, we remember the lives that were taken during this racially motivated attack. Mother Emanuel AME Church is the oldest oldest African Methodist Episcopal Church in the South.

Celebrating : Dr. Inez Y. Kaiser - An Icon In Public Relations

Kaiser was the first Black woman to establish a national public relations firm in downtown Kansas City. Read some trailblazing facts about Kaiser below:

Kaiser was the first Black woman to join the Public Relations Society of America in 1966.

She was the first Black woman to open her own public relations firm and serve national clients.

Her client roster included: 7UP, Burger King, Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Adolf Coors and Sears Roebuck & Company.

This February, PRSA’s Greater Kansas City Chapter established the Inez Y. Kaiser GKC-PRSA Memorial Scholarship Fund and donated $25,000.

In 2022, the endowment fund will begin awarding scholarships to Black college students at the junior and senior levels who demonstrate Kaiser’s qualities of Black leadership, PR excellence and community volunteerism.

Happy Emancipation Day, DC!

On April 16, 1862 President Abraham Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act.

This act gave over 3,000 slaves freedom eight months before the Emancipation Proclamation liberated slaves in the South.
