Kwame ‘Cumale’ Fitzjohn co-hosts Prince George’s County Gateway to Africa Gala
Washington, DC – 31 July 2013.
On 2 August 2013 at the University of Maryland Samuel Riggs IV Alumni Center in College Park, Maryland, Mr. Kwame Fitzjohn of Global African Media and host of “Conversations with Kwame Cumale”, will serve as Master of Ceremonies at the Inaugural Prince George’s County Gateway to Africa Gala, hosted by the Prince George’s County EDC Africa Trade Office (ATO).
The Gateway to Africa Gala will feature as Keynote Speaker Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, and will present business awards at the banquet honoring Continental African businesses. Expected among the guests to be in attendance include invited honorable guests Governor Martin O’Malley, U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, Congressional Representatives Donna Edwards and Steny Hoyer, as well as members of the African Diplomatic Corps.
With six of the world’s ten fastest growing economies in the last decade being from Africa, according to the The Economist Magazine, it is evident why the Prince Georges County Economic Development Corporation is behind this Gala and supporting trade with Africa through its Africa Trade Office.
The Africa Trade Office which is fully committed to the promotion of U.S. Trade and Investment, has as its mission to identify trade and investment opportunities and facilitate strategic partnerships between African and U.S. companies, as well as the promotion of U.S. exports.
Global African Media, where Mr. Fitzjohn, is a founding member, is committed to sharing a different experience and story about Africa and its Diaspora by its daughters and sons from a visionary perspective and, most importantly, with the development and potential of Africa as its main focus. The signature program, "Conversations with Kwame Cumalé", is another way that people of African descent are projecting their culture and sharing their narrative in this digital era. Shows such as this are important examples of our Global African collective consciousness and for inspiring tomorrow’s leaders.
As of late, Mr. Fitzjohn has had the esteemed opportunity to interview music legend Hugh Masekela and Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma, during a recent visit of the latter to Washington to meet with President Barack Obama.
