Make Your Own iPhone Speakers with a Paper Towel Roll & Two Keg Cups

Don’t have any iPhone or iPod speakers handy, but really want to boost the volume of the music or audio coming from your iOS device? If you have a paper towel roll and two plastic cups, you’re good to go with this goofy and sort of effective DIY iPhone speaker solution.

Guess what? It works, at least to amplify the sound. Does it sound any better? Well, no, not really, but it definitely sounds louder, and if louder is your intention then cutting a little hole into a paper towel roll and jamming your iPhone into it while blasting some music or a podcast will serve the purpose to amplify the audio with very little effort.

or some comparison with other Do-It-Yourself iPhone speakers and amplifiers, I think the sound quality of sticking an iPhone into an empty glass or large bowl is a bit better, but that’s not exactly a scientific conclusion. Of course the other perk with stuffing your iPhone into an empty cup is the claim of boosting cellular reception too, but we tested that and it didn’t work too well either.

But, if you’re in a pinch and need to amplify your iPhone or iPod music (iPad too if you can use a wrapping paper roll I suppose), grab whatever is handy, whether it’s a roll or a bowl, and have a go at it. Good times.

Philanderers, Scarlet Women Cower After Ashley Madison Hack

AAbout 40 million swingers and sexual sophisticates have been whimpering in fear since hearing Sunday's news that hackers broke into the servers of Avid Life Media, the parent company of online cheating site Ashley Madison.

The hackers stole large caches of personal data, Krebs on Security reported.

"The Impact Team," as the hackers call themselves, apparently broke into the servers hosting Ashley Madison and related sites Cougar Life and Established Men.

In addition to random customer account data, the hackers stole maps and the framework of Avid Life's internal servers, employee account information, employee salary details, and Avid Life's bank account data, according to Lifars.com. They published some of it on the Internet.

About 37 million of the victims were members of Ashley Madison.

Balderton backs Revolut in £1.5m round as London fintech surge continues

London startup Revolut became the capital’s latest firm to attract venture funding for its fintech (financial technology) platform today as it announced a £1.5 million funding round led by European investor Balderton Capital.

Revolut’s technology allows people to transfer money through a smartphone app without incurring the fees that banks and other financial services levy on consumers as they travel. Every year people in the UK fork out $1.67 billion (£1 billion) a year as they spend and send money abroad, according to Revolut.

The Revolut app, available on iOS and Android, works in tandem with a free MasterCard app that can be ordered through the app after the user has set up their account. The card can be used globally with no fees when the customer spends or withdraws cash from an ATM.

Nikolay Storonsky, founder and CEO of Revolut, said: “Revolut has an ambition to change the way money is transacted, sent and spent around the world. We are proud and delighted to introduce the world’s best-value digital currency exchange service. The app and card are intuitive to use, free for all and offer customers the peace of mind that, with Revolut, you can use your money across borders at unbeatable value.”

King’s Cross headquartered Balderton Capital raised over $305 million (£195 million) last year for its European investment fund and it’s using that money to get behind the likes of Nutmeg, Zopa, Crowdcube and Credit Benchmark and many other fintech firms.

Europe's Worst Crisis in Decades Is Also Populism's Greatest Opportunity

BRISTOL -- The Greek crisis has been one of the most analyzed political events of recent years, and yet one aspect of the drama has been under-discussed. This lacuna was most evident when the result of the referendum came in and several political leaders hailed it.

"It's fantastic to see the courage of the Greek people," said one. Another called it "a victory of the people against the oligarchy of the European Union." A third hailed "a very important day for Greece but also for Europe," saying "we saw the Greek people, who did not give in to fear, who proved that it cannot be blackmailed, it cannot be threatened."

These are sentiments many progressive democrats shared. But it should give us pause to note that these three celebratory pronouncements came from the lips of Nigel Farage, Marine Le Pen and Panos Kammenos, the leaders of UKIP, the Front National and far-right coalition partner of Syriza, the Independent Greeks, respectively.

Of course, the fact that many people we'd rather avoid supported the "no" vote is not in any way an argument that "yes" was the better choice. Guilt by association is by itself nothing more than a cheap rhetorical slander, like condemning vegetarians because Hi**er was at least for a while among their number. "The friend of my enemy is my enemy" is a logic of the school playground.

Watch This Former Circus Lion Feel Grass Again After 13 Years

You can actually see this circus lion’s face light up the moment he knows he’s free.

This big cat named Will was freed from a tiny cage where he’d been housed for 13 years. When he stepped into the grassy enclosure at Brazil’s Rancho do Gnomos wildlife sanctuary, he kicked up a dust cloud, pawing at the ground and rolled around in the grass.

The sanctuary’s staff believe it was the first time the lion had ever felt grass under his paws.

The video of Will’s release was shot in 2006, but the sanctuary just published it on Facebook this week.

The sanctuary’s founder Marco Pompeo says Will passed away from natural causes in 2011, but he had five great years of freedom — in the company of other lions — after he arrived at Ranco do Gnomos.

“He loved to lie in grass and look at the sky,” Pompeo told The Dodo. “He was a very happy lion.”

Footage shared this week by the Rancho dos Gnomos Santuário in Brazil shows the thrilling moment a lion named Will experiences, for the first time, the feeli...
