EarthDay.org It's not a day — It's a movement. Earth Day every day. The heart of our mission is to broaden, diversify and activate the environmental movement.

Earth Day Network’s mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, address climate change, and protect the Earth for future generations. Growing out of the first Earth Day, Earth Day Network is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental movement, working with more than 50

,000 partners in 196 countries to build environmental democracy. We work through a combination of education, public policy, and consumer campaigns. The first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, activated 20 million Americans from all walks of life and is widely credited with launching the modern environmental movement. The passage of the landmark Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act and many other groundbreaking environmental laws soon followed. Twenty years later, Earth Day went global, mobilizing 200 million people in 141 countries and lifting environmental issues onto the world stage. More than 1 billion people now participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it the largest civic observance in the world.

Great start to spooky season... 🦴

A new review of 62 studies reveals microplastics are reaching deep into bone tissue, including bone marrow. In animal studies, these particles can reduce bone growth & increase fracture risk.

"A significant body of research suggests that microplastics can reach deep into bone tissue and potentially cause disturbances in its metabolism." — Rodrigo Bueno de Oliveira, State University of Campinas

Yet we're still producing 400 million metric tons of plastic annually. Could they be fueling rising osteoporosis cases?

China breaks more records with a surge in solar and wind power—and the United States risks being left behind.

In May alone, China installed 93 GW of solar capacity and 26 GW of wind power—enough to power an entire nation like Poland. China now accounts for half of the world's total installed solar capacity and is helping African nations leapfrog coal by going straight to solar, further extending its lead in the global clean energy race.

The cost of falling behind:
→ Lost jobs
→ Missed economic opportunity
→ Weakened energy security

Section 453, a clause in the Interior Appropriations Bill, would strip states of the authority to act when federal agencies fail to protect public health and the environment, leaving communities powerless and shielding pesticide companies from accountability.

When pesticides contaminate your community’s water, soil, and air, who protects you? Not your state. Not your city. Section 453 removes their power.

Here’s what Section 453 really does:
❌ Removes state authority to regulate harmful pesticides
❌ Blocks local communities from seeking justice
❌ Limits recourse through most federal agencies
❌ Creates legal immunity for chemical companies

Local officials know your community best—they see contaminated wells, sick children, and struggling ecosystems. Section 453 would silence them completely.
When federal agencies fail, communities must have the power to act.

Should communities have the power to protect themselves from dangerous pesticides?

profits soar as families face the fallout: extreme weather, skyrocketing insurance, destroyed homes. The industries driving the crisis should pay for the cleanup.

Should corporations profit while your community suffers—regardless of how you vote?

Did you know? Pesticides are everywhere—in our food, water, and air. Children are especially at risk, absorbing 3x more pesticides per pound than adults, and their developing brains and organs are particularly vulnerable. Farmers face high exposure too, even with safety precautions, leading to elevated risks of cancer and other serious health risks.

Yet Congress is considering Section 453, a small clause in the Interior Appropriations Bill that would:

❌Make it harder, if not impossible, to hold pesticide companies accountable
❌Block state and local governments from protecting communities
❌Shield manufacturers once the EPA approves a product

Glyphosate, the world’s most widely used pesticide, was classified as ‘probably carcinogenic’ by the WHO in 2015, and new studies show it can cause cancer even at doses deemed ‘safe’ by the EU.”

It’s the same corporate playbook we saw with plastics: hide the science, protect profits, let families pay the price. Environmental health doesn’t stop at our skin.

Delete one thing from Earth—what would it be?

Join us for a powerful conversation with Rachel Kibbe, the sustainability expert who turned fashion's waste crisis into action. Alarmed early on in her career by the devastating cycle of clothing designed, worn briefly and then dumped in landfills, she didn’t just document the problem, she built solutions.
Kibbe has pioneered textile recycling systems that save valuable materials while creating sustainable jobs. Her work has taken her to the Halls of Congress to fight for policies that can transform how America handles clothing waste.
She'll share how she's combining industry expertise and political advocacy to build a circular fashion economy preserving finite resources while creating sustainable jobs and businesses.

On September 20, millions across 190 countries will mobilize for the 8th annual World Cleanup Day. 🌍

At EARTHDAY.ORG, we’re proud to support Let’s Do It World’s 2025 theme “Strive for Five!" a science-backed call for 5% of the global population to participate, triggering cascading shifts in how we treat plastic pollution.

Under our theme “Our Power, Our Planet”, we believe each person, community, and nation has the agency to build a healthier, trash-free world. This year especially, the cleanup in Ukraine becomes not just about environment, it’s also a symbol of resilience and hope amid conflict around the world.

Join us: find a cleanup near you (or start one), sign our petition for a binding Global Plastics Treaty, and together let’s show that solutions emerge when we act as one.
