OP-ED: Why Are We Leaving Black Women’s Health Behind?
It’s not enough to acknowledge obesity for what it is, a silent killer upending Black women’s lives. Acknowledgement must be tied to immediate and impactful action. To truly stem the tide of this crisis, we must dismantle the discriminatory healthcare policies that deny access for millions of Black women to the full range of lifesaving obesity care, including FDA approved medications.

Locals Keeping Alive Black Cowboy History, Lifestyle
SACRAMENTO OBSERVER — The Loyalty Riderz club is preserving the lifestyle in a way that honors the past and, with a tip of a cowboy hat, gives a nod to the future. The word “cowboy” originally was a derogatory term, club President Gregory Bradley, Sr. points out, coined back when whites commonly called Black men as “boys” regardless of their age.

YSL Trial: Rapper Young Thug Rushed To Hospital Before Scheduled Court Appearance
Young Thug has been rushed to the hospital. The chart-topping rapper was scheduled to appear in a Fulton County courtroom this morning, but was transported to the hospital after being escorted from the Cobb County jail, according to WSB.
Young Thug reportedly became sick and authorities decided to take him to a nearby hospital for treatment. His health concerns were made known by one of his attorneys during a previous hearing.
In April, Young Thug’s lawyers requested a bond for the rapper who has been in incarcerated for one year now.
“Mr. Williams is sleep deprived, mandated to wake up on court days between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. and not having more than five hours of sleep per night,” lawyers said. “By the end of the week, Mr. Williams is fighting to pay attention to the goings on in his case.”
Incarcerated since May 2022, Young Thug was arrested along with fellow rapper Gunna and other members of YSL (Young Slime Life). They were charged with the RICO Act by Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis.
There were initially 28 defendants and 14 took plea deals. As a result of the pleas deals, any of the co-defendants named in the original indictment could be called to testify during trial.
The trial has yet to start due to a rigorous jury selection process which began five months ago. The trial is expected to last about nine months.

Jamie Foxx Reportedly Recovering At Rehabilitation Center
Jamie Foxx is reportedly recovering at a rehabilitation center in Chicago. Foxx’s family members were photographed arriving at the rehabilitation center this week, according to TMZ.
On May 12, Foxx’s daughter Corinne provided an update on Foxx’s condition and revealed that he left an Atlanta area hospital weeks ago. This was after several false posts about Foxx’s health went viral on social media.
In April, Foxx suffered a medical emergency while filming a new movie in Atlanta. He has remained hospitalized for nearly one month following the incident.
Foxx is now recovering and has reportedly been told to relax more once he’s released.
Along with the film he was shooting in Atlanta, Foxx is also the hosts of the TV show “Beat Shazam.” And Foxx will star in the film “They Cloned Tyrone” which will be released in June.

President Biden Calls Racism a ‘Terrorist Threat’ at Howard Commencement
During his address at Howard University’s commencement on Saturday (May 13), President Biden used the podium to assert (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/05/14/biden-white-supremacy-howard-university/) that white supremacy is “the most dangerous terrorist threat” to America. Biden also recalled the story of how he decided to run for president in 2017 after seeing white supremacists march in Charlottesville.
“I don’t have to tell you that progress towards justice often meets ferocious pushback from the oldest and most sinister of forces,” Biden stated. “That’s because hate never goes away.” The President also acknowledged the disturbing nature of American history and how even though the right is working hard to erase it, its consequences are indelible.
“Though white supremacy is deeply embedded in the idea of American society and state and federal policy, this is really new ground for a president to be vocal in condemning it and saying ‘that is not the path we’re on.’ It reflects a commitment that stretches back to the Civil Rights movement.” Biden isn’t simply reiterating a biased reality Black people are painfully familiar with—he is addressing racial injustice on a national stage.
