A 1950s London adventure playground. We used the bombsites to play. We sustained grazes, cuts and bruises. We tore our clothes and kicked holes in our shoes and sometimes injuries were a little more serious. Our parents would go mad when they saw the state of us and would scrub the dirt off in no uncertain manner. Our clothes and shoes were mended and we went out the next day to do it all again! But most of all we had fun.
The bombsites were also a stark reminder that where we played had once been someone's house or workplace, so we remembered them as we played.😢

The Guyanese-British model and actress Shakira Baksh poses next to a London taxi, 30th April 1971. At the age of 20, she had come third in the 1967 Miss World contest held in London, after which she decided to stay to launch a career in modeling.
After seeing her in a British television commercial for Maxwell House coffee in 1971, Michael Caine became obsessed with finding the woman he considered to be "the most beautiful... he had ever seen." He found her, married her and in just a few weeks, on 8th January next year, they will celebrate their Golden Wedding.

In 1946, a demobbed soldier walked into The Gun in Brushfield St Spitalfields and ordered a pint. Admitting that he had no money, he asked if he could leave his medals as security and come back the next day to pay for his beer. But he never returned and all this time his medals have been kept safely at The Gun, mounted in a frame on the wall, awaiting the day when he might walk through the door again. Alas, the waiting is over and now it is too late for the soldier to return – because the pub closed and, if he were to come back, he would find The Gun’s doors locked, prior to part of the impending redevelopment of the handsome London Fruit & Wool Exchange. 😢
