March 10th, 2016 - WASHINGTON, DC - "More than a dozen people who had sought refuge next to Union Station were evicted from their encampment under the H Street overpass on Thursday morning. The effort was coordinated by the office of Deputy Mayor of Health and Human Services (DMHHS) Brenda Donald on behalf of Mayor Muriel Bowser. Cleanup efforts began promptly at 10 a.m., but city and nonprofit outreach workers arrived hours earlier to connect camp residents with various homeless services. [ 143 more words. ]

Enjoyed my interview with David S. Mitchell, Program Manager at the Financial Security Program (FSP) at the Aspen Institute.

He previously served as a legislative aide to U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH), handling health care and Social Security issues and working on the landmark health reform law that passed in 2010. Mitchell has held various internships over the years, including with the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, the White House National Economic Council, the law firm Hogan Lovells, the Office of Management and Budget, Citizens for Tax Justice, and the National Association of Community Health Centers. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Tufts University, an M.P.A. from the Woodrow Wilson School at Princeton University, and a J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center, where he was a Public Interest Law Scholar.

Welcome to LSIC Taylor Hall! Taylor is our new Videographer. He is an activist, artist, independent journalist, and published photojournalist who has been documenting actions and events since October 2009. In addition, he serves as the Co-House Manager of The Peace House, a hub for those working for positive social change and a world free from oppression. Previously, he worked as a video mixer for Global Revolution TV which brings live stream video coverage from independent journalists on the ground at nonviolent protests around the world.

Check out the photo of Taylor in action during a recent LSIC alumni interview with Danielle Polen, Director of Publications and Online Resources at the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Danielle is an alumna of Law Students in Court's Criminal Division Clinic (1990).

Had a very informative interview with Trevor Addie, a 3L at American University – Washington College of Law.

He serves as the Blog Editor on the Criminal Law Practitioner. He is also a member of the Criminal Law Society and the Lambda Law Society. Trevor has served as an undergraduate and legal intern at the Montgomery County (Maryland) State’s Attorney’s Office in a variety of capacities since 2010, including assignments to the Upcounty Felony Prosecution Unit, the District Court Prosecution Unit, the Special Prosecution Unit, and the Community Outreach Division. His legal interests include criminal law, DNA exonerations, wrongful convictions, LGBT and civil rights, and constitutional issues. Outside of law, Trevor has academic interests in forensic science, cultural anthropology, and Japanese culture and religion.

Just finished an interview with Danielle Polen, Director of Publications and Online Resources at American Immigration Lawyers Association.

Ms. Polen, oversees the association's publishing program and its online resources, including: conceptualizing and producing those core publications that will best serve AILA's membership; ensuring that AILA's online resources (including the website (AILA.org), the online immigration research database (AILALink), and the daily electronic newsletter (AILA8) present a unified vision and are aligned with both the needs of the membership and with the association's goals; overseeing development, editorial, and production processes for AILA's print and digital products; managing in-house and contract editorial staff; planning and goal-setting; and budgeting and sales analysis.

Had an excellent interview earlier today with Robert Goodis, the founder of The Goodis Center.

The Goodis Center, is a non-profit organization committed to creating a world that is equitable, humane, and just. They aim to do so by fostering a better understanding of human rights, raising awareness about matters of vital concern to the global community, and protecting human rights for all. Their efforts primarily take the forms of research, advocacy, direct action, publication, and education.
