The other day I got a text from somebody about a meme they saw that said, “Nobody saw the revolution starting in Minneapolis… except Prince.” then slthey said… “Now it’s on, and many of us are gonna find out the hard way there’s no sitting this one out. It’s us vs them.” thx for this text
Now… hear me when I say this from my very Pan-African, de-colonized point of view…. it has ALWAYS been US vs. THEM.
These recent events, the murders and killings by ICE & federal agents in Minneapolis, are absolutely f*cking awful, jarring & heartbreaking for all of us watching, grieving, and demanding justice. Folks like Renée Good and Alex Pretti were killed in situations that have stirred massive outrage and protest, and people are rightfully calling out the violence and lack of accountability.
But let me be clear: the revolution isn’t just starting now. The revolution has already been happening. For generations we’ve been RESISTING systems of oppression… resisting colonialism, white supremacy, systemic racism, exploitation, dehumanization… even when that resistance wasn’t televised, meme-ified, or trending on social feeds.
A lot of us have been raising our voices about the current state of affairs and that in itself is powerful.
Continue to do that!
That said, you know what else we could & should always continue to be doing? Instead of only being reactionary, let’s stay STRATEGIC and ORGANIZED in our solidarity and resistance.
Support the Mutual Aid networks in your communities.
Show up for Revolutionary forces doing sustained work.
Make your voices heard in ways that build power, whether that’s writing letters, making calls, signing petitions, sharing resources or educating others.
This is an ONGOING effort… not a momentary burst of outrage, but a deep commitment to using our people-power, our Divine Intelligence, and our Loving-Kindness to ensure that ALL human needs are met.
We are fighting Systemic Racism, Injustice, White Supremacy, Colonialism, and all the systems that try to make us “other.” We are confronting classism, fear, insecurity, scarcity, all of the things that try to keep us from living in freedom and dignity. And we do that not out of reaction alone, but out of a rooted, collective purpose that refuses to back down.
So yeah…. the struggle has always been real. And you betta know this: our resistance has always been real, too!
