🔥💔 This morning my heart broke all over again in Nyakuron West Custom Market.
I just came back from the scene of last night’s devastating fire in Juba. The heat is still rising from the ground, the smell of ashes is everywhere, and the pain in the eyes of our mothers, sisters and brothers who lost everything in minutes is something no words can describe.
One precious young life was taken by the flames. Dozens of shops — people’s entire life savings, school fees for their children, dreams built over years — turned to nothing before their eyes.
To every trader affected: I see you. I feel your pain. You are not alone.
We are immediately coordinating emergency relief, assessments for support, and long-term solutions so this never happens again. No more waiting for the next fire. We must act now — better wiring, fire stations that reach on time, insurance for our market women and men, and a safer Juba for all.
South Sudan, these markets are the heartbeat of our economy. When they burn, we all feel the pain.
Let us turn this tragedy into strength. Together, we will rebuild Nyakuron — stronger, safer, and full of hope again.
My deepest condolences to the family of the child we lost. May God comfort you.
To every trader picking up the pieces today: we stand with you. 🙏🏾❤️
