Amidst Trial and Turmoil: SPLM/A-IO and NAS Unite in Battle Against SSPDF in South Sudan

Juba South Sudan | 25th Sept 2025 | According to the SPLA-IO and NAS, the assault resulted in the capture of weapons, ammunition, and military equipment, as well as the destruction of several military vehicles. The statement also claimed that a significant number of SSPDF soldiers were killed or captured during the attack.

The SPLA-IO and NAS emphasized that their forces were committed to protecting civilians and ensuring their safety in the conflict-affected areas. They accused the SSPDF of targeting innocent civilians and committing human rights abuses, which they vowed to put an end to.

The capture of the SSPDF outpost in Mundri marks a significant victory for the SPLA-IO and NAS in their struggle against the government forces. It demonstrates their military capabilities and effectiveness in carrying out coordinated attacks against the SSPDF.

It is worth noting that the SPLA-IO, led by Dr. Riek Machar, and the NAS, led by Gen. Thomas Cirilo, are two of the main rebel groups operating in South Sudan, fighting against the government of President Salva Kiir. The ongoing conflict has caused immense suffering for the civilian population, with thousands of people killed and millions displaced from their homes.

The international community has repeatedly called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in South Sudan and for all parties to engage in dialogue to end the violence. However, the recent capture of the SSPDF outpost in Mundri indicates that the fighting is far from over and that the rebel groups remain determined to challenge the government forces.

The SPLA-IO and NAS have vowed to continue their military campaign until their demands for political reforms and justice for the people of South Sudan are met. They have called on the government to engage in meaningful negotiations and address the root causes of the conflict in order to achieve lasting peace and stability in the country.

The capture of the SSPDF outpost in Mundri is likely to escalate tensions between the rebel groups and the government, leading to further violence and bloodshed in the region. The international community must step up its efforts to mediate the conflict and bring all parties to the negotiating table in order to end the suffering of the people of South Sudan.

Furthermore, the SPLA-IO and NAS’s claim of capturing the SSPDF outpost in Mundri highlights the continued instability and violence in South Sudan. The conflict between the rebel groups and government forces shows no signs of abating, and the civilian population continues to bear the brunt of the fighting. It is imperative for all parties to prioritize the welfare of the people and work towards a peaceful resolution to the conflict in order to bring stability and prosperity to the war-torn country.

Amidst the legal proceedings against Dr. Riek Machar, the leader of the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army-In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO), a significant development unfolded on the ground as his forces engaged in fierce combat against the South Sudan People's Defense Force (SSPDF). The juxtaposition of Dr. Machar's trial and the military actions of the SPLA-IO forces underscores the complex dynamics at play within South Sudan's tumultuous political landscape.

As Dr. Machar and seven other SPLM/A-IO members faced the judicial process from Monday to Wednesday, reports emerged of intensified clashes between the SPLA-IO forces and the SSPDF. What makes this situation particularly noteworthy is the absence of Dr. Machar's deputy, Nathaniel Oyet, who is currently in exile. Despite his physical absence, it was Oyet who was reportedly leading and commending the SPLA-IO forces on the ground as they collaborated with the National Salvation Front (NAS) in their fight against the SSPDF.

The significant role played by Oyet in overseeing the military operations in Dr. Machar's absence underscores the decentralized nature of the SPLM/A-IO's command structure and its ability to adapt and mobilize forces even in the face of legal challenges against its leadership. Oyet's leadership in coordinating the joint efforts of SPLA-IO and NAS forces against the SSPDF highlights the interconnectedness of various rebel groups in their shared objective of challenging the government forces in South Sudan.

The strategic cooperation between the SPLA-IO and NAS forces in targeting the SSPDF suggests a coordinated and concerted effort to resist the government's military forces and pursue their respective agendas for political reforms and justice in South Sudan. The engagement of both rebel groups in active combat reflects their commitment to the ongoing struggle for a more inclusive and equitable political system in the country.

While Dr. Machar's legal proceedings undoubtedly have political ramifications, the actions of the SPLA-IO forces under Oyet's command demonstrate that the rebel movement remains active and engaged in confronting the government forces on the battlefield. The simultaneous pursuit of legal and military strategies underscores the multi-faceted approach adopted by the SPLM/A-IO in its quest for political change in South Sudan.

As the conflict continues unabated and the humanitarian situation worsens in South Sudan, the dual narratives of legal proceedings and military operations serve as a stark reminder of the challenges facing the country. The need for a comprehensive and inclusive peace process that addresses the root causes of the conflict and involves all relevant stakeholders is more urgent than ever.

In conclusion, the confluence of Dr. Machar's trial and the SPLA-IO's military operations reveals the complex and evolving nature of the conflict in South Sudan. The leadership dynamics within the rebel movement, as exemplified by Oyet's role in commanding the forces on the ground, highlight the resilience and adaptability of the opposition forces in the face of adversity. Moving forward, a holistic approach that combines legal, political, and military strategies will be essential in addressing the deep-rooted challenges and achieving lasting peace and stability in South Sudan.

BREAKING NEWS: South Sudan's Former First Vice President Riek Machar's Trial to Be Televised Live Amid Corruption and Coup Allegations

Juba South Sudan | 21st Sept 2025 | The trial is on Monday and it comes after months of investigation into allegations of corruption, embezzlement, and conspiracy to overthrow the government. Dr. Machar, the former First Vice President of South Sudan, has been accused of orchestrating a coup attempt against President Salva Kiir's administration.

The decision to televise the trial has sparked a debate among the public and legal experts. Some argue that it is a necessary step towards promoting transparency and accountability, while others believe it could compromise the defendants' right to a fair trial. Nevertheless, SSBC remains adamant that airing the proceedings live is in the best interest of the public.

The trial is expected to be highly contentious, as Dr. Machar and his co-defendants have vehemently denied all charges brought against them. The case has already drawn international attention, with human rights organizations and foreign governments closely monitoring the proceedings.

As the trial begins, tensions are running high in South Sudan. Many fear that the proceedings could reignite old animosities and escalate the already fragile political situation in the country. The government has assured the public that security measures will be in place to maintain order during the trial.

The outcome of the trial will have significant implications for the future of South Sudan. If Dr. Machar and his co-defendants are found guilty, it could mark a turning point in the country's fight against corruption and political instability. On the other hand, if they are acquitted, it could lead to further political turmoil and uncertainty.

Regardless of the verdict, one thing is certain: the trial of Dr. Riek Machar and his fellow defendants will be a pivotal moment in South Sudan's history. By airing the proceedings live, SSBC is taking a bold step towards ensuring transparency and accountability in the country's judicial system. As the trial unfolds, all eyes will be on Freedom Hall, as South Sudan braces itself for what promises to be a historic and momentous event.

BREAKING NEWS: Bank of South Sudan to Introduce New Higher-Denomination Banknotes: 5,000 SSP and 10,000 SSP

Juba, South Sudan | Sept 16th 2025 |
The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) is reportedly preparing to introduce new high-denomination banknotes of 5,000 SSP and 10,000 SSP soon. This move comes in response to the rising inflation and the need for a more efficient way to handle large transactions in the cash-based economy of South Sudan.

The decision to introduce these new banknotes follows a period of economic uncertainty in the country, with inflation reaching unprecedented levels. The existing denominations of the South Sudanese Pound were becoming increasingly inadequate to meet the needs of the people for day-to-day transactions, as well as larger purchases or payments.

With the introduction of the 5,000 SSP and 10,000 SSP banknotes, the Bank of South Sudan aims to make it easier for individuals and businesses to conduct transactions more smoothly. These higher denominations will allow for the carrying out of larger transactions without the need for massive amounts of lower-value notes, reducing the risk of theft and the logistical burden of handling large amounts of cash.

In addition to addressing the immediate need for more practical currency denominations, the introduction of the new banknotes is also intended to combat inflation and stabilize the economy. By introducing higher-value banknotes, the BoSS hopes to reduce the circulation of smaller denominations, which can contribute to inflationary pressures.

The move has been met with a mixed response from the public. While some see it as a positive step towards addressing the economic challenges facing the country, others have expressed concerns about the potential impact on inflation and the value of the currency. However, the BoSS has assured the public that the introduction of the new banknotes is part of a broader strategy to stabilize the economy and restore confidence in the financial system.

As the country prepares for the rollout of the new banknotes, it is important for individuals and businesses to stay informed and prepared for the changes that are to come. The BoSS has advised the public to familiarize themselves with the new denominations and to take the necessary steps to adapt to the new currency system.

In conclusion, the introduction of the 5,000 SSP and 10,000 SSP banknotes by the Bank of South Sudan is a significant development that is expected to have far-reaching implications for the economy. While there may be challenges in the short term, the long-term benefits of a more efficient and stable currency system are likely to outweigh any initial concerns. It will be important for all stakeholders to work together to ensure a smooth transition to the new banknotes and to support the efforts of the BoSS in restoring stability to the economy.📝
