Today (10/16) is the Great Washington ShakeOut! At 10:16 a.m. this morning you’re invited to drop, cover and hold on wherever you are – whether it’s at work, home or school. A record 1.6 million people have signed up to participate. Practicing builds muscle memory for when the real earthquake comes. We created a drill recording to help with the experience today: https://bit.ly/DRILLRECORDING

Also today, depending on where you are, you might hear sirens.
More than 120 Washington tsunami sirens along the inner and outer coast will be tested using the real wailing sound of a tsunami warning, not the Westminster Chimes that are typically used during the monthly tests. Find maps of where the sirens are here: https://mil.wa.gov/tsunami

Sirens related to the Columbia Generating Station will be tested in the Tri-Cities areas. But the Lahar sirens in Pierce County will NOT be tested.

You may get text messages depending on your jurisdiction. But you would need to opt in ahead of time. Find your local jurisdiction at https://mil.wa.gov/alerts

The Wireless Emergency Alert text system on cell phones will NOT be tested. This system is the one that sends texts if you don’t opt in, kind of like an AMBER Alert.

Those who have downloaded the free MyShake Earthquake Early Warning App on their phones will get a test. If you have the app downloaded already, make sure the software is up to date and open it at least once this morning. Find the link to download the app at https://mil.wa.gov/alerts

The Emergency Alert System will be tested on cable and broadcast television and radio. This is not tested on streaming television or streaming radio.

Our Story

Update August 8, 2019

August 11, 2019 marks 25 years of our continuous activity on the internet. August 16th marks three years since the devastating floods in South Louisiana that affected our operations. With this month we can say that we have moved from the swamps to the mountains to continue our traditions and the full time resumption of operations. Look forward to our new operations beginning this fall.

Update March 11, 2019

For the last six months we have been running 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We also added three additional streams to cover the wide spectrum of artists. During this time we have operated without advertising or subsidies from any source. We wanted to see if we could accomplish and succeed with the technology and we have done so. After much debate we have questioned whether 24 hour nonstop programming is viable in today’s changing society. We have come to the conclusion that the concept is becoming obsolete. After decades of exposure to the concept that is a radical change!
