Are you coming to Rome for the Jubilee of Youth?

At the Angelus, Pope Leo XIV welcomed those who've arrived, saying he hoped they'll deepen their faith & encounter Christ during the celebrations July 28-Aug. 3.

He also thanked journalists for serving truth and peace, and he reminded everyone that July 27 marked the World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly.

May no one abandon their elders, he said, "but instead, form a bond of love and prayer with them." Full story: https://ow.ly/hySr50WvLqO (CNS photos/Vatican Media)

Just like NASA had its own "Hidden Figures" of women making important contributions to science behind the scenes, so did the Catholic Church.

Four religious women helped map over 480,000 stars for the Vatican's role in the historic "Carte du Ciel" celestial catalog.

Their hidden legacy in astronomy deserves to be remembered as it highlights the church's enduring support for science and the vital contribution of women. Check out the full story here: https://ow.ly/KLam50WtumU (CNS photos/courtesy Vatican Observatory, NASA)

Did you know today is the anniversary of the first crewed mission to land on the moon on July 20, 1969?

Pope Leo XIV helped mark the day by visiting the Vatican Observatory in Castel Gandolfo, Italy. While the observatory here dates back to the 1930s, the Holy See has had its eye on the sky with papal astronomers since the 16th century.

Fun fact: Pope Paul VI watched the landing happen, first on television and then with the same telescope.
