HagarFILMs has been working with The Danish Kennedy Guys on a fascinating project. Anders Agner Pedersen is the Executive Editor of Kongressen.com, a Danish language website dedicated to explaining current American politics to the good folks back in Denmark. Good luck with that. Anders is a familiar face to Danish television news audiences and is the author of three top-selling books on the life and speeches of JFK. His fourth book, titled “JFK 100”, will be hitting the bookstores in the weeks ahead.

At the Danish premiere of the Academy Award nominated film “Jackie” in December, Anders was introduced to Caspar Phillipson, the talented actor with an uncanny resemblance to the 35th U.S. president, who played the young President Kennedy opposite Natalie Portman in the film. Anders and Caspar hit it off and the idea of presenting excerpts of President Kennedy’s greatest speeches to a live audience took shape.

This week, in Washington DC, The Danish Kennedy Guys staged two performances of the speeches. The first was at Martin’s Tavern in Georgetown, where Kennedy proposed to Jackie and is reported to have worked on his inaugural address. The audience was captivated by the idea and responded with a standing ovation. More than a few eyes welled at Caspar’s spot-on and emotional delivery. The second performance was at American University, where Kennedy had delivered the “Peace Speech”, what many considered to be his best speech ever.

Of interest to HagarFILMs are the relevance of the speeches to the current political climate and the ability to relate to audiences so directly through Caspar Phillipson’s engaging performance. The most interesting speech they performed is Kennedy’s last speech, the speech he was to deliver on November 22nd, 1963, to kick off his reelection campaign in Dallas Texas, that was tragically lost to history. President Kennedy faced a nation yearning for answers on so many political questions at a time when the social forces that produced the eruption of the 1960s were rapidly coming to a head.

Students of Political Science, historians, any well-read observer of our times, will find significance in the fascinating performance and smart context The Danish Kennedy Guys are able to bring in the collection of speeches that are now presenting. We are thrilled to be able to assist with their project. We are developing a concept now for global distribution of the concept. Stay tuned to see what we come up with next.
