Fall is upon us( almost)
That means our latest crop of young people eager to learn the business, AKA: Interns!
Introducing our latest:
My name is Brandon Kenneth Redd. I’m an Audio Engineer that recently graduated from Omega Recording Arts and Sciences. Other than audio work, I enjoy photography, golf and videography.
Doing whatever it takes to get it done .
Hi, my name is Micaa' Thomas.
I am 21 years old and originally from Beaumont, Texas. I
have been living in Bowie, Maryland since 2003. I am a
rising senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in
Visual Effects with a minor in Animation and Drawing at
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Atlanta,
Georgia. At SCAD, I have the opportunity to pursue both
of my passions, art and golf. Since I was 10, I have
competed in over 200 tournaments around the world. As
a Creative Artist, I have valuable experience in using
Nuke, Houdini, 3Ds Max, Maya, Illustrator, After Effects,
Premiere Pro, and Photoshop Software. In fact, in April
2019, I was selected to serve on SCAD’s first television
pilot as a Video Editor and Visual Effects Artist.
During my free time, I love to watch YouTube videos that
mainly focus on the movie and television industry because
they keep me informed on the latest creative software and
techniques. I am ecstatic to work as an intern for Ventana
Productions, where I am able to gain knowledge from real-
life and hands-on experiences with incredibly talented
professionals in my field.
My goals for 2019 are to implement the skills I have
acquired at Ventana and apply them to my daily work.
Just another day at the office
Webcasting:We Make It Look Easy!
My name is Aba and I am a recent college graduate. When I was first told about Ventana I was ecstatic, but what I should have been prepared for was the opportunity to shadow a group of amazing people who wore multiple hats operating this small yet impactful in-house production. I have been able to sit at a webcast at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Whether it was improving on my Premier Pro skills, helping set up the studio, assisting clients prepared to give interviews and their interviewees or watching a media tour take place from morning to noon, there has been a lot of vital information I have learned and will take with me.
I have met and spoken to the well-known host Dennis Wholey for “This is America” and have gotten a glimpse of Cory Lewandowsky who also visited the studio during my time here. The staff has been so welcoming and warming, ready and willing to answer my questions, share their stories and give words of encouragement. The most intriguing thing to me was how skillful everyone is here. This further encourages me to be the best I can be. Thank you Ventana for welcoming me into your creative space and giving me opportunity I would have not had anywhere else.
My name is Yeonjae Baek. Call me Yeonjae or YJ. Everyone in the US struggles to pronounce my name so I now have many different names. I am 23 years old and I am from South Korea. I was born in Seoul and I have lived near Seoul with the best family in the world. I arrived in California last July as part of a Korean government funded scholarship internship program. In January, I moved to DC for my internship with Ventana.
I am a huge Disney fan. Disney movies have made me dream big of becoming a story artist who inspires people to dream big just like Disney did for me. In college I was a film major so of course, I love watching movies and TV series. Nothing beats binge watching Netflix with some snacks. I like vintage and classic things such as movies, music, and photos taken by film cameras. I am also a travel addict. I’ve traveled to many countries and explored a lot of cities in the U.S.as well. Before going back to Korea in this July, I will travel all around the this country as much as I can! Please recommend any good cities for my future trips!
My 2019 goal is ‘learning and experiencing a lot here. Coming here was a hard decision;I came here with no family or friends and I had to take a year off from college. I am proud of how brave I am to follow my dream. Every single day here is so precious for me. I want to learn a lot of things at Ventana. Thank you fit having me as an intern, Ventana! And thank you for reading my story!

Hello all. My name is Addison Cole and I am a rising Junior studying Theatre and Digital Video Cinema at James Madison University. Having spent most of my life on stage in the lights and backstage with paintbrush in hand, I am now focused on expanding my horizons to behind the camera. This summer I want to get my foot in the door of the film industry by learning all I can from film shoots I go on, and exploring jobs around the office.
My mission is to leave amazed audiences saying, "Wow."
I hope to see you in the field.
Meet Summer Intern Jack Vogel. He hails from Silver Spring, Maryland. Jack attends St. John’s university in New York where he’s a senior, majoring in Communication Arts. Another Great Shoot with PBS and Osei Productions!
Who says working can't be fun!
Lights, Camera, Interns!!
My first month interning at Ventana Productions has been pretty eventful. I've gone on three shoots with the team, and I've learned a lot about lighting and composing shots for different situations. My first big shoot was for Michelle Malkin, in which we used three cameras for a couple two-person interviews. It was a much more professional setup than I was used to in terms of the grips for lighting audio recording. Afterwords, we shot some B-roll for one of the interviews. Tim Murray, one of the DPs, taught me how to effectively shoot some objects out in the field.
More recently, I was a part of a series of shoots for government contract. These shoots were more along the lines of acting than an objective project, so it was an interesting change of pace. As I aspire to create films, this was a good opportunity to see how the crew picked different angles to shoot from in order to tell a story, as well as how they directed people who are not traditionally actors to seem believable in their roles. It was a long day of shooting, but it was good because it helped me get a grasp on how some busy days go. All in all, my experience so far has been quite informative and enjoyable.
My name is Graham Smith, and I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. I am currently a rising senior at The University of Alabama majoring in Telecommunications and Film with a specialization in documentary film, and minoring in Computer Science. My passion lies in post-production and the ability to aesthetically communicate a message through video and audio, but I also have an interest in music production and sports broadcasting. I am an avid D.C. sports fan and outdoorsman. I enjoy documenting outdoor experiences ranging from fishing to cliff jumping. In the future I hope to travel and document different cultural experiences in places around the world and show people the varied cultures of people around the globe. I am excited to be learning the trade here in my own city, and look forward to acquiring the skills I need while gaining professional experience here at Ventana.
My name is Elijah Sutton, and I’m an aspiring director and cinematographer born and raised in Prince George’s County. I’m a rising senior at Frostburg State University majoring in Mass Communication with a focus in Audiovisual Production. Filmmaking is my passion, but I am also interested in music production and other artforms such as painting and digital media. I love to travel and photograph the places I’ve been. Working with Ventana, I plan to gain invaluable skills that will help guide me throughout my filmmaking career, as well as enjoy my time assisting productions.
Hello, my name is Imani Williams. I am a rising junior at Middle Tennessee State University, Go Blue Raiders! This is my third time in D.C. and this trip has definitely been the charm. I make the best popcorn and M&M’s mix and shopping is my favorite pastime. While interning at Ventana Productions this summer I hope to learn and gain skills in editing and video production as a whole. I am an on screen broadcast journalist, but I wanted to learn more about what happens behind the scenes. With all the experience and expertise at Ventana I know I will leave D.C. with more than I came with.
