Hi, my name is Micaa' Thomas.

I am 21 years old and originally from Beaumont, Texas. I
have been living in Bowie, Maryland since 2003. I am a
rising senior pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in
Visual Effects with a minor in Animation and Drawing at
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), Atlanta,
Georgia. At SCAD, I have the opportunity to pursue both
of my passions, art and golf. Since I was 10, I have
competed in over 200 tournaments around the world. As
a Creative Artist, I have valuable experience in using
Nuke, Houdini, 3Ds Max, Maya, Illustrator, After Effects,
Premiere Pro, and Photoshop Software. In fact, in April
2019, I was selected to serve on SCAD’s first television
pilot as a Video Editor and Visual Effects Artist.

During my free time, I love to watch YouTube videos that
mainly focus on the movie and television industry because
they keep me informed on the latest creative software and
techniques. I am ecstatic to work as an intern for Ventana
Productions, where I am able to gain knowledge from real-
life and hands-on experiences with incredibly talented
professionals in my field.

My goals for 2019 are to implement the skills I have
acquired at Ventana and apply them to my daily work.

My name is Aba and I am a recent college graduate. When I was first told about Ventana I was ecstatic, but what I should have been prepared for was the opportunity to shadow a group of amazing people who wore multiple hats operating this small yet impactful in-house production. I have been able to sit at a webcast at the Bipartisan Policy Center. Whether it was improving on my Premier Pro skills, helping set up the studio, assisting clients prepared to give interviews and their interviewees or watching a media tour take place from morning to noon, there has been a lot of vital information I have learned and will take with me.

I have met and spoken to the well-known host Dennis Wholey for “This is America” and have gotten a glimpse of Cory Lewandowsky who also visited the studio during my time here. The staff has been so welcoming and warming, ready and willing to answer my questions, share their stories and give words of encouragement. The most intriguing thing to me was how skillful everyone is here. This further encourages me to be the best I can be. Thank you Ventana for welcoming me into your creative space and giving me opportunity I would have not had anywhere else.

Hello!

My name is Yeonjae Baek. Call me Yeonjae or YJ. Everyone in the US struggles to pronounce my name so I now have many different names. I am 23 years old and I am from South Korea. I was born in Seoul and I have lived near Seoul with the best family in the world. I arrived in California last July as part of a Korean government funded scholarship internship program. In January, I moved to DC for my internship with Ventana.

I am a huge Disney fan. Disney movies have made me dream big of becoming a story artist who inspires people to dream big just like Disney did for me. In college I was a film major so of course, I love watching movies and TV series. Nothing beats binge watching Netflix with some snacks. I like vintage and classic things such as movies, music, and photos taken by film cameras. I am also a travel addict. I’ve traveled to many countries and explored a lot of cities in the U.S.as well. Before going back to Korea in this July, I will travel all around the this country as much as I can! Please recommend any good cities for my future trips!

My 2019 goal is ‘learning and experiencing a lot here. Coming here was a hard decision;I came here with no family or friends and I had to take a year off from college. I am proud of how brave I am to follow my dream. Every single day here is so precious for me. I want to learn a lot of things at Ventana. Thank you fit having me as an intern, Ventana! And thank you for reading my story!

My first month interning at Ventana Productions has been pretty eventful. I've gone on three shoots with the team, and I've learned a lot about lighting and composing shots for different situations. My first big shoot was for Michelle Malkin, in which we used three cameras for a couple two-person interviews. It was a much more professional setup than I was used to in terms of the grips for lighting audio recording. Afterwords, we shot some B-roll for one of the interviews. Tim Murray, one of the DPs, taught me how to effectively shoot some objects out in the field.

More recently, I was a part of a series of shoots for government contract. These shoots were more along the lines of acting than an objective project, so it was an interesting change of pace. As I aspire to create films, this was a good opportunity to see how the crew picked different angles to shoot from in order to tell a story, as well as how they directed people who are not traditionally actors to seem believable in their roles. It was a long day of shooting, but it was good because it helped me get a grasp on how some busy days go. All in all, my experience so far has been quite informative and enjoyable.

My name is Graham Smith, and I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia. I am currently a rising senior at The University of Alabama majoring in Telecommunications and Film with a specialization in documentary film, and minoring in Computer Science. My passion lies in post-production and the ability to aesthetically communicate a message through video and audio, but I also have an interest in music production and sports broadcasting. I am an avid D.C. sports fan and outdoorsman. I enjoy documenting outdoor experiences ranging from fishing to cliff jumping. In the future I hope to travel and document different cultural experiences in places around the world and show people the varied cultures of people around the globe. I am excited to be learning the trade here in my own city, and look forward to acquiring the skills I need while gaining professional experience here at Ventana.

Hello, my name is Imani Williams. I am a rising junior at Middle Tennessee State University, Go Blue Raiders! This is my third time in D.C. and this trip has definitely been the charm. I make the best popcorn and M&M’s mix and shopping is my favorite pastime. While interning at Ventana Productions this summer I hope to learn and gain skills in editing and video production as a whole. I am an on screen broadcast journalist, but I wanted to learn more about what happens behind the scenes. With all the experience and expertise at Ventana I know I will leave D.C. with more than I came with.

Introducing Fall Intern Kenny Brown:
My name is Kenny Brown and I am a audio engineering and music production major at the Community College of Baltimore County. With only being here a few short weeks, I have already had a very enjoyable and memorable experience here at Ventana. The staff has been amazing in giving me the freedom to pursue my interests not only in audio, but they have also shown me that video can be just as challenging and vital to the production process. Everyone is upbeat, friendly, and always willing to give me opportunities to be apart of anything that is going on. Being apart of Ventana will broaden my network, portfolio, and will no doubt land me a career in the audio industry.

The past couple weeks have definitely eventful here at Ventana! I have been on shoot after shoot, I have learned so much from so many people. From working hand in hand with clients and fixing gear on the go and all of these on the jobs skills, those things that I am learning here are things you just can’t learn in a classroom so I definitely will be heading back to school with a new and fresh look on how to do my work and how I work with others. I’m so grateful for this awesome opportunity. Working alongside everyone at Ventana and with the other interns is something I will definitely cherish. I only have a few weeks left of my internship and I definitely will miss it a lot.

Hi, my name is Allie Crump, production intern for summer of 2016. I am a communications major at The University of Tampa but I have lived in the DC area my whole life. I have just finished my first year at The University of Tampa and couldn’t picture my summer doing anything else but working in the broadcast production field. During high school and my freshman year of college, I have learned so many skills through different projects and side jobs I have picked up and I am so excited to be at Ventana to learn even more and hone my skills. Within just a few weeks I have already worked on a few in house shoots as well as one on Capitol Hill. While being back in DC for the summer, I want to revisit a lot of museums I haven’t been to since I was a kid and take advantage of the amazing array of food that there is to try. I can’t wait to see what this summer has to offer!

06/08/2016

Good Morning, I’m Kwame Stroman, current summer intern for Ventana Productions. I acquired my internship through the Washington Center program. I am proud to be a recent college graduate. I spent the last four years at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, simply known as I-U-P.
Graduating with honors, I earned my degree in Communications Media where I focused on video and audio production. I’ve taken courses that challenged my script writing abilities, taught me to analyze every detail and increased my creative capacity. Aside from the work I did in the classroom, I was also involved in a number of extracurricular activities such as the award-winning Center for Media Production and Research (C.M.P.R) and WIUP-FM.

My long term focus is on screenwriting and directing. In the meantime, I’m marrying my technical know-how and curiosity with my creative mind by studying for a Master’s Degree in Instructional Design. Instructional Design is a new field that uses computer programming to develop educational processes and tools.

Interning at Ventana will give me a chance to pick the brains of professional editors, videographers and directors to further my understanding of the technical and creative aspects of video content production.

Between interning and studying, I plan to make the most of my time in D.C. . I hope to visit a number of national landmarks and museums. I want to immerse myself in the diverse D.C. culture and everything that the district has to offer!

Hello, I’m Aliyah Coates, production intern for the summer of 2016. I am currently a student at The University of Toledo studying Communication with a focus in Broadcasting. While at Toledo, I have been very active in the pursuit of my future career in TV production. For the past year, I have worked with UT’s TV crew to cover all of our sporting events and productions.at I also worked with ESPN3 to produce some of UT’s games.
This summer while in DC, I plan not only to further my knowledge of TV production, but to also enjoy the sites and all else that DC has to offer ! I’ll be visiting the monuments, museums, and seeing the White House, going on a cruise on the Potomac River, and of course enjoying the different festivals. I celebrate my 21st birthday on July 3rd and am excited to see how DC treats me during these months. This will definitely be a summer to remember!
