On my first Kickstarter, I would've torched $10,000 chasing a number that only lived in my head. This time, I knew better.

My goal was "50k," and the closer I got, the louder the old voice said spend more and hit the round number. I'd already spent about $5k on ads and brought in close to $40k, roughly a 7x return. Throwing another $10k at it just to hit a vanity goal would've wiped out my profit.

A few campaigns ago I'd have chased it and lost money doing it. Now I know to set the goal, then protect the ROI. Your ego is not a marketing strategy. P.S. I ended up exceeding my goal anyway, no extra panic or bad investments, required :)

Your messy photos beat your polished ones. Here’s why.

Meta rewards Proof of Humanity, the wonky angle, the real desk, the books that aren’t lined up perfect. I have to work at making mine LESS perfect.

Show the mess. It converts.

Save this and go take some “bad” photos.

I run video ads that barely get a single click. On purpose.

Here's the trick. When your best image ad slides into "Learning Limited," it's dying. But if you hand Meta a brand new creative type, like a quick video, it rewards you by serving your winning image ad again.

A client of mine did exactly this. Her image ads stalled, we added four simple videos with the same copy and audience, and her return on ad spend shot up. The videos barely spent a dime. The image ad came back to life.

It doesn't fully make sense, but it's how the algorithm works right now.
