Hello everyone! I’m new here!
It’s been along time since I’ve been wanting to go to an off grid and homestead living lifestyle and I’m starting my journey this summer. Just purchased 13 acres with two mini lakes. I’m looking to build everything myself. I know I have to start small but also being a Mom I’m not sure where I need to start. I’m thinking of using 2x 40ft marine containers as a base and build off those like a barn style cabin. I welcome all advice how to get started. Thank you so much

I was skeptical about buying this thing when someone posted about it. but since I’m having a gnat infestation too I gave it a shot. Now look how many gnat plus flies I caught ! btw, no more gnats.

I have a natural spring on my property. The guy who built the house piped the spring in the 80s. It’s safe to drink, but getting it tested again to make sure nothing has changed.
Question is, how do I care for it? Should I line the pit with stone or anything? Should I dig a bit deeper? Going to fix the out pipe because it snapped off. Flow rate drops a good bit when it’s not raining so not sure if I should dig out the back and rebuild it with stones. Just looking for general direction if we choose to use this as a regular drinking source.

Thank you so much for the lady who recommended this trap on this, because we had an infestation of mice in our area. I didn’t expect this mouse trap to work so well. I added some peanut butter inside the bucket, and the mice went crazy for it. I’m debating how to dispose them..

275 IBC tank (WT). Solar powered DC water pump (P) with pressure switch, 6.5 gallons per minute. Is this gonna work? I feel like with the split off the pump I’m gonna have s**t water pressure. GW is my grey water.

I have used these before, with the same results. We live across the street from a thousand acre cattle farm, so, we have flies. I put one of these traps up 3 hours ago and the other one an hour ago. Between them, they already have hundreds. There is another brand with a blue and red package that do not work. Get these. I’ll never buy anything else.

Corn advice!
Hello, we have planted corn but much smaller plots within a garden but this year for the first time we cut up a piece of land, and are going to use it exclusively for corn. Wonder if anyone could give me advice on the best way to prepare the soil or maybe how you grow it?
I have seen some people put something over the soil, poke a hole in it in place corn starts in it - although I am not sure what they put down. I'm also thinking I should cover the land with plastic for a few days to prevent grass seed from starting but I'm not really sure and would appreciate anyone's thoughts on it.

Hey y’all! Just popping in to say hi and share some pics/vid of our off-grid water source, aka Nature's Spout. It’s a tapped spring that runs year-round about half a mile down the road. We drive down, fill up the water totes, and try not to spill half of it on ourselves in the process. It’s like a gym workout, camping trip, and hydration mission all rolled into one. Who needs city plumbing when you’ve got off-grid adventures?

Off grid rant. Today I was laying more cardboard so I can mulch around the panels and bio bag so it’s easier to maintain all summer. Just see a wet stream coming down the bio bag. Come to find out it’s a small hole maybe a cat claw or a thorn idk. This system has been a nightmare all the way. For anyone thinking about going off grid stick with a regular composting toilet or dry flush. You will see many homesteaders say great things about it but most of them got it for free so their options were bought and paid for with clout. The toilet broke months ago and we have been doing our best to patch it up. They don’t sell replacement parts anywhere in the United States of America. The entire thing from toilet to bag and all the fittings are made from mostly plastic like materials and after 3 years it’s all discolored and worn. The toilet itself stinks it’s a battle to keep the bathroom from having a faint bathroom order because the pipe coming off the toilet directly connects to the bag so the smell comes through. The selling point for the system is it makes gas. It’s a small amount of gas would only power a small burner or portable water heater and not worth the crap that comes along with this system.
