I know, I know, I need to get a lot better about posting on here. I can’t wait to show everyone all the amazing things that have been taking place on the homestead. So please do me a favor and hit the follow button so you don’t miss a thing! With that being said, there’s so much more happening in this video than just a horse getting her teeth done. 🐴🦷❤️

One of the things I love most about moments like this is watching someone who has spent years gaining knowledge and experience take the time to pass it on to the next generation.

Deedra Mobley could simply come out, do her job, collect her fee, and move on to the next horse. Instead, she slows down. She explains what she’s doing and why. She shows my daughter what she’s looking at, teaches her about the anatomy of a horse’s mouth and teeth, answers her questions, and encourages her curiosity every step of the way.

And that means more to me - and my daughter - than Deedra probably realizes.

We live in a world where people can sometimes treat knowledge like something that needs to be guarded—as though helping someone else learn somehow takes something away from them.

But knowledge doesn’t become less valuable when you share it. It becomes more valuable.

So, in a world that can sometimes feel a little feral, be like Deedra.

Be full of wisdom, but humble enough to share it.
Be compassionate.
Be encouraging.
Be passionate about what you do.
And when a young person shows an interest, take the extra few minutes to teach them.

Because you never know when those few minutes might spark a lifelong passion.

The next generation needs more people who are willing to say, “Come here. Let me show you.” ❤️

Thank you, Deedra, not only for taking such wonderful care of our horses, but for taking the time to invest in my daughter, answer approximately 847 questions 😂, and share the incredible wealth of knowledge you’ve worked so hard to gain.

May we all strive to leave the next generation a little more knowledgeable, a little more capable, a little more confident… and maybe just a tiny bit less feral than we found them. 😂🐴❤️

Although, around here, we make absolutely no promises about that last one. 🤷‍♀️😂

A huge thank you to the amazing Trenton Brookshire for coming out today to give my ladies the much-needed spa day they deserved. 💜🐴

Not only did he get their hooves trimmed up and looking fantastic, but he also went above and beyond by helping us properly fit our new saddles, bridles, and bits.

We’re definitely not new to owning horses, but we also don’t pretend to know everything. We love learning, and we’re always grateful when experienced horse people are willing to share their knowledge and help us continue becoming well rounded, knowledgeable horse owners.

We weren’t quite able to measure the girls for hoof boots today because of their current hoof shape and condition, but we have a plan! With a couple more trims to help correct their hoofs, we should be able to get them measured and fitted soon.

While Trenton was busy getting the girls all squared away, my little one decided they needed the full spa treatment. She put the finishing touches on their pedicures with Twinkle Toes purple glitter hoof polish. 💜✨

I might be a little biased, but I think the purple sparkle looks absolutely perfect with all the purple tack and bling she’s worked so hard to save up for and purchase. She’s still on the hunt for some black and/or purple leather closed reins.

Today’s homestead project: Rabbit nesting boxes. 🐇🛠️

We have three does due to kindle this weekend, another not long after that, and hopefully a few more will be bred before the white fluffy stuff starts to fall from the sky. Which means procrastination is officially no longer an option. Apparently rabbits don’t care whether I’m ready or not. 😂

Every nesting box gets fire sealed to help protect the wood from moisture, rot, UV damage, and insects. But because we also colony raise our rabbits - and I have a tendency to overbuild and overthink… I decided to add another layer of protection with Flex Seal too.

Two boxes are getting a fresh coat of white, two are going black, and I’ll be building two more that will stay natural (well… natural after they’re fire sealed).

Will the rabbits appreciate the extra effort? Probably not.

Will they immediately cover my hard work with hay, fur, and baby bunnies? Absolutely.

But that’s farm life. Build it, improve it, and then let the animals redecorate. ❤️🐇

Now let’s see if I can get all six finished before the moms decide they’ve waited long enough.

Well… as you can all see, our “little” surprise is, in fact, physically not so little at all. 😂🐴

Known to many as, Little Bit, this 1,000-pound Quarter Horse mare with just enough Arabian mixed in is the latest addition to Feral Hearts Homestead.

Because while normal families return from their travels with souvenirs, T-shirts, or maybe a magnet for the fridge… this feral bunch comes home with livestock. That’s normal… right? 🤷‍♀️😂

This beautiful baby comes from an incredibly loving home, and it shows. She was given so much love throughout her life that she arrived with an abundance of it to share. Watching her gently love on our rescued Mustang mare—who grew up without ever really knowing that kind of affection—has been something truly special to witness.

We already have a feeling these two are going to become the very best of friends. 💗

Raspberry Plants For Sale

Red - $5 & Golds - $10

First, I want to say thank you.

For the past two years, so many of you have supported my daughters by purchasing raspberry plants, cheering them on, and encouraging them as they learned what it means to work hard for something they wanted. Every plant you bought, every kind word, and every bit of support has meant more than you probably realize.

My middle daughter is still hard at work chasing her own goal: saving for her very first car.

But because of those plant sales (along with dog sitting, farm sitting, shoveling driveways, scooping p**p and horse stalls, and plenty of other odd jobs), my youngest daughter was recently able to save enough money to purchase her very own horse. 🥹🐴❤️

As anyone with horses knows, buying the horse is often the easy part. 😂 Unfortunately, much of our old tack doesn’t fit her new mare, so my youngest already has a new savings goal. She’s working toward a black or black-and-purple saddle, and matching (black or purple) bridle, reins, saddle pad, hay bag, and all the other horse accessories that somehow seem to multiply overnight.

So… the girls are back at it again and selling raspberry plants this year!

These red raspberry plants are well established and extremely hardy. They have several sizes available, from about 12 inches tall to well over 5 feet tall.

The girls will dig up the plants the same day you intend to pick them up and will handle the entire sales transaction themselves. Please be patient as they count money, answer questions, and continue learning independence and responsibility.

I will be there to supervise, encourage, and help with questions they aren’t sure about, but this is their business venture and learning experience, so they’ll be running the show.

To reduce no-shows and cancellations, they will only work on same-day confirmed orders. You’re welcome to place an order in advance, but they won’t begin digging plants until you message again on pickup day to confirm you’re still interested.

Please allow at least two hours of prep time for orders. I’ll let you know when your order is ready for pickup.

🌱 Bare-root red raspberry plants: $5 each

🌱 Smaller red plants potted in nursery containers: $10 each

We also have a very limited supply of Golden Raspberry plants available.

I’ve had my Golden raspberries for four years, and the plants available will be new shoots growing outside their designated area. These will be significantly smaller than the red raspberries, generally around 6–12 inches tall.

I know it’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything.

We’ve been busy clearing land, rebuilding and shoring up fences, cleaning out the old horse barn, and tackling a long list of projects around the homestead.

Why?

Because my youngest daughter, who spent years shoveling horse p**p for fun, has officially purchased a horse with her own money. 🥹🐴🥰

Meet Sonjee, her beautiful Mustang mare. 💗

This wasn’t a gift. It wasn’t handed to her. And Sonjee certainly wasn’t bought on a whim.

This horse was paid for with years of hard work: shoveling stalls, shoveling driveways, house sitting, farm sitting, dog sitting, countless hours digging up and selling raspberry plants, and saying “yes” to just about every opportunity she could find to earn a few extra dollars.

While many kids were spending their money on junk food and trinkets, my daughter was saving every penny she earned toward one goal.

Today, she finally achieved it.

I couldn’t be more proud of the young woman she’s becoming or the work ethic she’s built along the way. In a world that often expects instant gratification, she spent years working, saving, and staying focused on her dream.

Also, for the record, yes—this is HER horse.

We just get the privilege of paying the vet bills, buying the hay and feed, and funding all future horse-related chaos…. I mean care expenses. 😅

Well that happened!

I’m running on fumes, still trying to get everything done because there are no days off, sick days, or any other days besides work days on a homestead.

So naturally, my daughter’s rabbit chose today to become a first-time mom.

We’re keeping a close eye on her and the babies while she figures out the whole motherhood thing.

Send good vibes and positive thoughts for this new mama and her babies.

Get ready with me for a real homestead morning.

No glamorous makeup.
No matching chore outfit.
No cute egg apron.

Just me “borrowing” my husband’s fire-retardant clothes because that’s what today’s tasks call for after we feed the babies, and make the rounds to everyone else.

BUT, what’s more important than that is introducing you all to our beautiful rabbits. Five of these adorable new babies need names!

WARNING: We have officially entered the “tiny goat chaos” era of the homestead 🐐💀

Meet Bandit & Hazel — the newest feral residents of the homestead. We brought these little Nigerian Dwarf babies home about 3 weeks ago, and now at just one month old, they’ve already:
• declared ownership of the house
• turned my wheelchair into a jungle gym
• attempted to eat my clothes, hair, furniture, wheelchair, and demolished my will to fight them
• mastered the art of launching themselves off random objects for absolutely no reason
• and somehow convinced everyone they’re innocent immediately afterward

The amount of energy packed into these tiny little bodies should honestly be studied by scientists.

But truthfully, these babies have been such a blessing to our homestead already. On the days when wheelchair life and the pain from living with a rare bone disease hit extra hard, these two have a way of making me laugh whether I want to or not. It’s hard to stay down in the dumps when tiny goats are parkouring off your wheelchair and/or body like overly caffeinated feral gremlins. 😂

They’re wild, hilarious, spoiled already, and FULL of love… which fits in perfectly around Feral Hearts Homestead! Thanks to these adorable and already spoiled animals, I now have no chance at finishing a project, and apparently all my mobility equipment now belongs to the goats. 🌿🐐
