Honest moment
I’ve been really down and disconnected since my AFO appointment, but this morning I engaged with my routine: I did some seated yoga, I made my protein oatmeal, and filled out the planner.

Want an update on ASFL ‘27 planner? It is all formatted, the 12 write ups are complete, & now I need to secure interviews! Read the attachment for connection profiles.

The grief that comes from chronic illness and disability isn’t something I know how to articulate. I have given so much for my body and health: my home country, independent living, and dreams along the way.

Today, in an office I never wanted to visit again, I was fitted for something that I hope gives my body the support it needs.

Broken hearted, angry, and a bitterness that’s indescribable, but I will do it not because I want to, or because I (like) this body of mine… but because I have an absolute respect for what it has survived and endured.

I’ll get through this, but it will be a gentle journey. I am not that child, or the 20 something year old that was pointed and laughed at. Someone I respect told me that “I can do hard things”… I hope she is right.

I am navigating feelings of grief as I prepare for an upcoming appointment on Friday. I know that my body needs more support, but I also am trying to love on the littler version of me that experienced so much ridicule and sadness around Friday’s appointment.

If you’re living with chronic illness and you too are looking for how to: ask for support, articulate your experiences, and invite your loved ones to support you, buy my guide at the link.

Created with us in mind, reflecting on real life experience, come with me as I guide you to these conversations.

Immediately no. I’ve seen what I needed to see.

As a person with complex health, mobility aids, orthopedic braces, and other visible supports are a part of my daily life.

Not only do they help me live a safe, fulfilled life, but they also offer my body support and reduce the risk of a catastrophic injury if I fall.

If someone shares that they are embarrassed by a symptom, or reality of my lived experience, I don’t know that I can make room for them in my life.

That may sound harsh, but I cannot hide the reality of my conditions, and neither should I be shamed for them, either.

If you live with chronic illness or disability I want you to save this video as a reminder that you can rock that mobility aid, babe.

I wish that I could rewind and go back to ten years ago.

I once felt extremely guilty about the impacts of my disability, especially as it relates to my family.

The nights of restlessness when I was sick.

The birthdays I missed because I was in the hospital.

Feeling like I couldn’t participate in ways I wish I could.

It took some healing, self reflection, and inner forgiveness to get to a place where I realized these crucial facts: I am not responsible for my conditions, I am worthy (as are anyone else living with chronic illness & disability) of love, respect, and support, I am deserving of a full life.

Comment a chronic illness “hot takes” of your own.

It’s been a little while since I did an (re)introduction.

Hi! My name is Ashlee. I am a woman with chronic illness & disability; living with POTs, Hydrocephalus, and CP.

I am a bookworm, and a soft hearted romantic. I am also the owner of a small business called A Spoon-Filled Life.

My goal is to empower, uplift, and encourage those living with chronic illness and disability, and helping them to communicate with empowerment.

“This Vermont-based company, founded by Ashlee Brady-Kelly, a disabled woman living with conditions like POTs, Hydrocephalus, and Cerebral Palsy, offers products and resources to help individuals navigate relationships and communicate effectively about their needs.
A Spoon-Filled Life LLC provides practical tools, such as the A Spoon-Filled Life Yearly Planner 2026, which helps individuals track symptoms, appointments, and important notes. Additionally, the company offers how-to guides on discussing chronic illness and disability with loved ones and intimate partners.”

Ashlee Brady-Kelly’s personal experience and advocacy have inspired a community of individuals who resonate with her message of empowerment and support. With A Spoon-Filled Life LLC, she aims to create a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and find resources to manage their conditions.

Obviously the last two are a joke… right?

It sometimes feels like navigating the medical world as a woman is a circus, particularly when it’s an unchanging, lifelong conditions.

Something I would like to scream from the mountain tops is: losing weight will not magically erase my existing neurological and nueromuscular conditions.

Yes, losing weight and maintaining a healthy weight does have secondary benefits, and decreases the strain on my joints, absolutely.

But surprise, surprise, it did not magically cure my conditions, because women’s health is more than their hormones, cycle, and weight.

Tap that like if you are a woman who went to a medical professional seeking support for a chief complaint, and the response was “lose weight, and come back in 6 weeks if it does not improve”.

Someone that communicates, holds space for emotions, doesn’t shy away from difficult conversations, and can match my sarcasm?

Green flags aplenty!!!!!

If you live with chronic illness or disability I want to remind you of something… you are deserving of love, support, and patience.

Neither disability or chronic illness make you undeserving of love and your happily ever after.

I’ve been single for a while now, but I can’t wait to make space for my person.

It may feel scary to talk to your spouse about chronic illness and disability, but it doesn’t have to. In fact, I created a resource just for you!
