It's national Mac & Cheese day. We did an interview on WABI TV5 Keenan was patient with us while we worked and appreciate him spending part of the day with us.

For one Waterville restaurant and convenience store, the focus isn't on the profits at the end of the day. It's about the difference they are making in the area.

I want to preface this post by thanking Adam and Dan Bradstreet at Code Enforcement. Anytime there’s a problem, they’re quick to communicate, listen, offer suggestions, and are always willing to help work out solutions.

That said, I wish Todd would learn to do the same.

Todd, the side yard is now mowed. You could clearly see that a portion of it was already being maintained. The back half—surrounded by a building and a concrete parking lot—was planted with wildflowers that were just about to bloom in the coming weeks.

Had you stopped by and had a conversation with me, instead of sending letters threatening $100 fines for each day it wasn’t cut, you would have known what was happening. So now, instead of daisies, butterflies, and other wildflowers, we have concrete and grass. Hooray.

I guess the old, smelly dumpster along the sidewalk is more to your liking. Have the day you deserve.

A Step Backwards for Our Neighboring Town

As someone who’s had the privilege of serving as Mayor, I’ve seen firsthand how much good leadership can shape a community. That’s why I can’t stay quiet about what’s happening in our neighboring town. Hiring a town manager who was rejected by voters? That’s not just disappointing—it’s a slap in the face to the democratic process.

This decision, made by a council that seems more interested in keeping their "good ole boys and girls" club intact than listening to the people, sends the wrong message. It says that connections and privilege matter more than trust and accountability. And honestly, it’s a step backward for everyone involved.

Here in our community, we’ve shown what’s possible when leadership actually listens. We’ve paid teachers more because we value the people shaping our kids’ futures. We’ve turned our fire and police departments into community-focused teams that build trust and make our neighborhoods stronger. We’ve supported programs for the most vulnerable because we believe no one should be left behind. These weren’t easy changes, but they were the right ones—and they happened because we worked together and put people first.

I’ve always loved the playful rivalry between Waterville and Winslow. Whether it’s debating who makes the better tourtière pie or whose town has the best local spots, it’s all in good fun. But this? This isn’t fun. This decision feels like a betrayal of the values that should unite us. We’re two towns that share so much—yet somehow, we’re looking more and more different.

How is it that most of us can agree on fairness, opportunity, and accountability, but still fall short of what it means to truly live those values? It’s starts by making sure leadership reflects the will of the people, not the interests of a select few. It’s about striving for a government that serves with integrity, equality, and a genuine commitment to progress.

To my friends in Winslow: you deserve better. Leadership should reflect your voice, your needs, and your hopes for the future—not the backroom deals of a few insiders. Now’s the time to speak up, hold your leaders accountable.

**Attention Waterville Residents & Commuters**

There is a new traffic pattern on Burleigh Street in Waterville. The intersection of Burleigh Street and Winter Street is now a four way stop. The new stop signs are in place on Burleigh Street and 2 Waterville PD message boards are set up approaching the intersection from each way on Burleigh Street to make drivers aware of the change.
