Let’s talk, bookish women over 40…

Is the book world only for the younger crowd?

Because I’m almost 50…
and I’ve been reading s**t forever. 😌📚🔥

Sometimes I scroll and feel like I wandered into a room full of ring lights, crop tops, and twenty-somethings whispering about morally gray men like they invented the genre.

Meanwhile…

we were hiding paperbacks in our purses,
reading after the kids went to bed,
dog-earring pages,
and telling our best friend,
“you HAVE to read this.”

Romance readers were never teenagers.

They were women who lived.

Women who loved.
Women who survived.
Women who rebuilt.
Women who still choose joy.

Let’s be real…

when you’ve lived a whole life,
the spice hits different. 🔥

The younger crowd reads for fantasy.
We read for recognition.

And here’s the truth nobody says out loud:

Women over 40 are the backbone of the romance world.
We buy the books.
We support the authors.
We understand the depth.
We know the difference between lust and love…
and we want both.

So if you’ve ever felt out of place while scrolling…

You’re not too old.
You’re underrepresented.

You’re not late to the party.
You built the party.

And I KNOW I’m not the only one.

I don’t “listen to audiobooks.”
I live in them.

In 2025 I made it through 279 titles…
averaged 377 minutes a day…
hit a psycho stretch of 19 hours 36 minutes on April 13…
AND I didn’t miss a single day.

Yep. 365 Club.
Because peace is cute, but I prefer plot twists, trauma, and morally grey men whispering threats in my earbuds.

Wednesdays were my peak chaos day apparently, which checks out. 😭😂

Just finished listening to Illicit Illustration by EL Koslo and I have to talk about it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This audiobook hooked me fast. The narrators were honestly perfect for the characters and the story, and that makes such a difference. Their voices made the emotions feel real and the tension actually hit instead of falling flat.

I loved how he slowly inserts himself into her life. The best friend’s little sister trope gets me every time when it’s done right, and this one absolutely nailed it. It keeps you leaning in, wanting more, and slightly stressed in the best way because you need to know what happens next.

It’s a genuinely sweet love story with a slow build that actually pays off. And yes, the spice at the end is very much worth the wait. This one stayed with me even after the last chapter ended.

Highly recommend if you love audiobooks with heart, tension, and a satisfying payoff.

POV, I just started ARC reading so I went shopping and my first romance book box shows up with my goodies and SIGNED….

Two spicy romance books.
Goodies I did not need but absolutely deserved.
And that unhinged little thrill when you realize, oh… this is my life now.

I’ve been reading romance for decades, dark, morally gray, toeing the line of unholy.
But opening my first book box as an ARC reader hit different.

This wasn’t just mail.
This was validation.
This was “welcome to the chaos, we saved you a seat.”

If you like your love stories messy, possessive, morally questionable, and a little spicy, we’re going to get along just fine.

More ARC reads coming.
More opinions nobody asked for.
More spice, zero apologies.
