The Disciple’s Prayer

The more accurate title of The Lord’s Prayer would be The Disciple’s Prayer. Jesus did not want his disciples to use this prayer as a vain repetition, but he wanted them to pray in this pattern.

The prayer consists of six petitions. And the fifth petition is to forgive our sins as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

Jesus goes on to say if we forgive other people when they sin against us, our heavenly Father will also forgive us. But if we do not forgive others their sins, our Father will not forgive our sins.

Sin disrupts our relationship with God. Since unforgiveness is a sin, it disrupts our relationship with God.

Jesus taught His disciples in the Sermon on the Mount about worshipping God and unresolved conflicts. He said that when we offer our gift at the altar and remember that our brother or sister has something against us, we need to first leave our gift before the altar, be reconciled with them, and then offer our gift. In other words, unless we reconcile with our brother or sister, we cannot have a right relationship with our Heavenly Father.

We cannot claim to have a good relationship with God if we do not get along with one another.

Unforgiveness is like sitting on a swing in a playground. The more we think about the wrong done to us, we push ourselves higher and further away from where we are supposed to be. The world looks different to us. Everything around us is a haze. We lose control of ourselves. Emotions take over. Bitterness governs our thoughts, and deep-rooted resentment takes center stage. But when we try to halt the swing by attempting to place our feet on the ground, the swing gradually slows down, bringing it to a halt, and finally, we can get down from it. Similarly, when we stop mulling over the past and the wrong done to us, the swing will slow down, finally enabling us to forgive and forget.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I surrender my hurt and pain to you. I choose to forgive those who hurt me so I may have a right relationship with you. Help me overcome.

“Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭15‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Devotion Day Two: Forgiveness

The Second Greatest Commandment

Two longstanding neighbours had a dispute. Their disagreement was over a tree which grew between their houses. One neighbour preferred the flourishing boundary tree, while the other wanted it to be axed because of the bird droppings on their side of the house. The neighbour called a tree surgeon to resolve their dispute by cutting the tree in half. The half-chopped tree was an unusual sight to behold and the talking point of the neighbourhood.

When Jesus was asked which is the greatest commandment, he replied with two commandments, the first commandment is to love God and the second is to love our neighbour as ourselves.

How does love for ourselves influence our love for our neighbours?

Firstly, by recognising our inherent worth. We are created in God's image and, therefore, intrinsically valuable. In the same way, our neighbour, irrespective of what they have done, is made in God's image; therefore, they are valuable. Just as Christ died for our sins, so did Christ die for their sins.

Secondly, we know sometimes we fall short of being the person we ought to be. In the same manner, we need to be aware that there will be times our neighbours will fail to be the person they ought to be. We should never expect them to be perfect, just as we are not perfect.

Thirdly, when we make a mistake, we are generally patient with ourselves (sometimes finding excuses for our faults). Similarly, when our neighbour fails, we ought to be patient with them.

Fourthly, when we sin, we hate what we did, but it does not stop us from loving ourselves. In the same way, when our neighbour sins, we ought to hate what they did, but we should not stop loving them.

We hope they will become perfect one day, just as we hope we will be too.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, help me to love others as I love myself. Help me to remember just as I need grace; my neighbour needs grace too.

““Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.””
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭36‬-‭40‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Devotion Day One: FORGIVENESS

Blame Game

A mother of two toddlers walked into the kitchen and found it a mess. The table was strewn with cookies, and the floor was splattered with cornflakes. Standing in this messy kitchen, the exasperated mother sternly asked them, “Who did this?” And simultaneously, without batting an eyelid, they both pointed at each other! She couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

We may smile when we think of the response of these toddlers, but the blame game is as old as Genesis.

In Genesis, we read that God created a beautiful world, and in it, He created man and woman, the first couple in His image. Since a Triune God created mankind, we are made for community, a reflection of the divine community of the Trinity.

God created the first couple to complement each other. When God said He would make Adam a helper, he was referring to one who provides strength in the area where Adam was lacking. They were created to live in a harmonious relationship with each other.

Sin’s entry into God’s perfect environment of beauty and unity led to a broken world, a divided community, and a broken relationship with God. What was the first couple’s response to God for their act of disobedience? Eve blamed the serpent, and Adam blamed God and the woman. Neither took responsibility for their actions. I wonder if the couple continued to belittle and blame each other over the next hundreds of years they lived together. Could this have been their predicament after being banished from the Garden of Eden?

Today as we look at our disagreements with one another, is it possible that it could be because of us? Maybe we should have shown a little more restraint, perhaps not quickly flying off the handle, or maybe we could have been a little more patient.

The good news is that God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to forgive, redeem and restore us. He died and rose again and paid the price for our failures. Christ came to restore our relationship with God and our relationship with fellow men.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, your word says that before I look at the speck in my brother’s eye, I must first pay attention to my eye. Reveal to me my faults which hinder my relationship with you and others. Thank you for your love and forgiveness for me.

“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭3‬-‭5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

The enemy will use situations and people to tempt and trigger you…. But you have to remind the enemy you don’t live there any more and walk in your authority in Jesus name.

Don’t pick back up what you already laid down at the feet of Jesus.

It’s. Not. Who. You. Are! ✌🏼🕊️

Joseph – From Pit to Palace

Joseph, the son of Jacob, had big dreams given by God. But instead of rising immediately to greatness, he was betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and thrown into prison. Everything seemed to go wrong.

Yet, through those painful and unexpected twists, God was working behind the scenes. While in prison, Joseph interpreted dreams, which eventually brought him before Pharaoh. In a surprising turn, he was made second-in-command over all of Egypt.

What looked like a series of disasters was actually God’s pathway to positioning Joseph for a greater purpose—saving nations during a famine and reconciling with his family.

Lesson: God’s blessings don’t always look like blessings at first. Sometimes they come through pain, waiting, and detours.

:::: FREEDOM FOR LIFE! ::::

The Word of God tells us that there is provisional healing and freedom for our body, soul, and spirit through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Scripture also tells that we will KNOW the truth, and the truth will make us free. Until we know the truth, we are ignorant to the pathways to total freedom. While some people encounter miraculous transformation and freedom instantaneously upon accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, others must work out their own salvation, healing and sanctification progressively. We are instructed to constantly renew our minds, and die daily, so that we can remain in close fellowship with God, and live righteously as sons and daughters of our Father in Heaven.

Freedom For Life is a Biblical pathway to discovering and knowing freedom through Jesus Christ. We have personally encountered life-changing freedom through this teaching and have seen immediate transformation in the lives of many who have an ear to hear what the Spirit is saying to His Church. Through this curriculum, you will discover how to remove many roadblocks that prevent believers from fully receiving all of the benefits that were bought and paid for through Christs’ shed blood.

Here are the topics covered in Freedom For Life:

Who Is Our Enemy?
Why Are They Our Enemy?
What Is Satan's Strategy?
What Is God's Strategy?
The Two Access Points
The Five Doors
Closing The Doors
Soul Ties
The Strongmen
