This I have truly come to believe - God uses our experiences as mothers/parents to move us towards being better adults. Even if you thought you were a good person pre-momma years—if you were like me, motherhood changed the woman in the mirror. Suddenly I felt quite small, inadequate and not as put together as I believed. When I thought it was breaking me, God said no. You’re not breaking, you’re still in the making. You’ve got this momma 💪🏼

Maybe today isn't the day to try harder. Maybe today is the day to hand it over.

I read this beautiful daily prayer on The Bible App, and it immediately made me think about the mothers in this community.

So many of us carry invisible burdens:
• the mental load
• the worry
• the guilt
• the pressure to keep everyone else afloat

This prayer is a reminder that God never asked us to carry those things alone.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed." — Psalm 34:18

If this prayer speaks to you today, I'd love to invite you to continue the conversation on Gracefully Unraveled, where we talk honestly about motherhood, faith, identity, emotional overwhelm, and learning to experience God's presence in the middle of ordinary life.

I used to think prayer was for the big things—until a lost wallet, a tired mind, and a quiet moment in a school pickup line changed what I thought I believed.

Have you ever felt spiritually disconnected in motherhood—wondering if God hears your prayers or questioning why some prayers seem to go unanswered?

In the the latest Grace Note episode from Gracefully Unraveled, Kelli reflects on a lost wallet, a worried son, and an unexpected realization about faith, prayer, and the stories many mothers quietly carry about God.

🙏
Sometimes prayer changes circumstances.
Sometimes prayer changes us.

I wonder how many of us have quietly treated prayer like a request form.

Praying for the thing we want.
The answer we need.
The outcome we hope for.

I've certainly done it.

But recently, while praying about my son's missing wallet, I found myself asking a different question:

What if prayer isn't primarily about what we're praying for...

What if it's about what we're praying through?

The fear.
The disappointment.
The uncertainty.
The need to control what we cannot control.

This week's Grace Note explores how motherhood has challenged my understanding of prayer, faith, and what God may be doing in the moments we wish would resolve faster.

Have you ever had a prayer change you before it changed the situation?

I thought I was praying for a lost wallet.

Instead, I found myself praying a completely different prayer.

As moms, we spend so much energy trying to fix problems, protect our children, and prevent disappointment. But sometimes life presents us with situations we simply can't control.

Recently, while sitting in a school pickup line worrying about my son's missing savings, something unexpected happened.

The conversation I thought I was having with God took a turn.

And it changed the way I think about prayer.

If you've ever wrestled with unanswered prayers, spiritual doubt, or trusting God when circumstances don't change, this Grace Note might resonate.

Have you ever found yourself wondering if God actually hears your prayers?

Not because you've lost your faith.

But because you've prayed the same thing over and over—and nothing seemed to change.

In this week's Grace Note, I found myself sitting in a school pickup line admitting something I didn't expect:

"God, I think I have doubts."

What started as a prayer about my son's missing wallet uncovered a deeper conversation about motherhood, faith, unanswered prayers, and what prayer may really be for.

If you've ever felt spiritually disconnected, questioned why God seems silent, or wondered whether your needs are too small for prayer, this reflection is for you.

Summer has arrived.

The backpacks are put away.
The school alarms are gone.
The pressure seems lighter.

At least for everyone else.

For many moms, summer simply means a different version of the same mental load.
Maybe you're working while trying to keep kids entertained.

Maybe you're coordinating camps, meals, schedules, and endless snacks.

Maybe you're trying to figure out how much screen time is "too much" while also needing 30 uninterrupted minutes to answer emails.

Last night, I stayed up until nearly 1:00 AM working so I could spend more time with my kids today.

It's a trade many mothers know well:

Sleep or time with your children.

Rest or productivity.

Your needs or everyone else's.

In Breathe Mama Breath, Shonda Moralis reminds us that we've absorbed the message that caring for ourselves is somehow selfish—when in reality our well-being is part of what helps our families thrive.

The truth is that motherhood was never meant to be sustained entirely through self-sacrifice.
If you're carrying more than anyone sees this summer, I see you.

And maybe it's time we stop treating our own renewal as optional.

Have you ever imagined what it would feel like to simply disappear for a while?

Not because you don't love your children.

Not because you're a bad mother.

But because you're tired.

Dead tired.

The kind of tired that comes from carrying the schedules, the emotions, the invisible responsibilities, the remembering, the planning, the worrying, and the endless presence that motherhood asks of us.

For generations, mothers raised children surrounded by other mothers, grandparents, neighbors, siblings, and community.

Today, many of us are doing the work of an entire village alone.

And then wondering why we're overwhelmed.

In this episode of Gracefully Unraveled, I explore the hidden reason so many mothers fantasize about escape, why work often feels easier than parenting, what anthropology teaches us about the missing village, and how faith invites us to see presence not as punishment—but as sacred labor.
